They are to replace the red LED's in my HAF case fan i've measured to voltage coming from the fan to the LED's and it's between 1.9 and 2.1 volts depending on which LED i check only problem is i can only find LED's with a forward voltage of 3-3.4 volts

ANyone thats done it previously let me know which ones you used please

from what I remember at college, you can use a led with the lower voltage you have measured, it just won't glow as brightly.

A well known auction site starting with e will sort you out. They'll cost about 10p each if you buy 20 or more.

Red LEDs do run at the lowest voltage of any major colour LED, while Blue's run at the top of the range, along with White LEDs.

Here's a guide I did on switching the LEDs, from Blue to Orange. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18172549&highlight=Tutorial

You could always make your own wiring and power them using a 12v source. Maybe not quite as elaborate as guide, maybe just with a single chain of 4. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18172810&highlight=Tutorial

I was thinking of doing something similar in the future to my case. bigjimmyauk: Can you post up pictures and which method you used as I would like to see how it looks.

If you can access the fan hub wiring you can also add in a resistor in parallel with the existing circuits to drop the resistance to each led and raise the voltage.

Eg if they have 540 ohm resistors in place then adding in a 2000 ohm resistor in parallel with it will reduce the circuit resistance to 425 which is more appropriate for a blue led.

Another site would be phenoptix but they sell on the auction site for a cheaper price anyway.
