help lost win rar password

hi guys ive foolishly forgotten the password to an old backup archive

, ive tried all my passwords to no avail is there any software that will crack it?

downloaded a bunch of those but only let you do 3 charcters before regestration which is like £30 :mad:

yeah thats what i thought until i saw the timescale to crack the first , 15 mins for the first letter, 15H for the second which i stopped then as its just to long

because winrar passwords are so well encrypted - you really only have the choice of dictionary attacks or brute force...

brute force will probably take a lot longer, but that doesn't really matter - as:
a) you don't have the full version and it'll only tell you the first 3 letters
b) I don't think you get a very good dictionary file with these - so you'd need to find one
c) there's no guarantee that a dictionary attack will work in the first place -even with a good dictionary file.

Go with the brute force (leave it running over night and whilst you're at work. If you get the first 3 letters, it could jog your memory...

It won't give you the first three letters. It'll either have the full password or nothing. A brute force attack could potentially take centuries if it's of a reasonable length and using non alphanumeric characters.

I suggest you remember the password

thanks for the offer but cant really do that as it has personal info in there like bank details and my address, as said above it wont give u any charcaters until it has the full password so leaving the pc on cracking wont help as its almost certanly longer than 3, cheers anyway guys going to keep looking online for free password finders
