[Help] Loud Bang from Desktop!

Today while i was playing final fantasy 14, i heard an loud bang sound inside my custom built pc
(Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 Intel X58 Express 1366 Motherboard
i7 920 DO 4.0 Ghz overclocked
Corsair 6gb ram 1666 mhz
Gainward GTX 460 factory overclocked 1gb )

and felt something odd on my foot for a milisecond, which could possibly be a spark , im not sure.

My pc continued to work as normal as if nothing happened, temperatures were not higher than normal , 56 degrees on cores . Graphic card still works fine so far.

I opened the case and made sure all fans were operational and saw no sign of smoke

I would like to diagnose the issue and the cause to see if anything is damaged, or to prevent future damage. What do i do?

Until last time i checked (last week), the memory speeds would be shown in this interface. It is not visible and slightly messy now, even after restart

Is it possible something has gone wrong with the graphic card?

Notice the memory clock is 1000 Mhz , on the scan website and the gfx box it is said to be 4000 MhZ

Could it be that the bang was related to the memory clock of my graphic card, and this is why the gainward performance ( self overclocking tool) seems to be bugged?

Im not at home now, but I'll be in a couple hours and double check , and update this post . ( would be odd though considering all components in this pc been used for less than 1 month)

could have been one pop in the PSU as well, however if you have to look in the PSU remember some components may retain their charge after its disconnected so dont touch anything at all....
 
could be a blade off a fan - have you checked all the individual fans, is there any undue vibration/noise happening now (from an unbalanced fan)?
 
GPU memory clock is fine. It says 1000mhz because it is GDDR5, which effective runs four times the rate, so it is running at 4000mhz. Is the PC near your foot? It could have been something else...

Apprently this can happen when the 'borrows' that live in pc's have a firework party. They can sometimes live in warm places like a desktop, laptop and on odd times a MAC (but most ones wont be seen dead in a mac). Chances are its just a firework thats gone astray dont worry :)..... or it could be like the guys above said a blown capaciter :( It is strange tho that its running okay.. Everytime ive had one blow on me you see some signs of strain :(
 
hmmm considering it is coming up to fireworks night... did you leave your window open ? a firework could have flew through the window.

i would probably think it is the gpu, but then again how can it work.

best bet check all around the pc for any parts that shouldn`t be there.
 
Capacitor sounds likely. Google "bulged/blown capacitors" to see what they look like then have a good look at your components.

They look like mini barrels, the top is normally flat (often with a cross scored onto the top of them to create a weak point) A blown cap will "bulge" and this top surface will be "domed" or split along the lines of the Cross, perhaps with some fluid/corrosion mess.
 
Hey! I looked inside my pc and had a glance at the mobo, graphic card, nothing looks odd. I could link pics .

Could it just have been an electric spark?

Edit: if it was another issue, can i ignore it since my pc is running fine, and if a component would die soon i can do nothing to stop it ( and its not dangerous i assume)
 
This is one of the funniest/weird problems i have ever heard! Normally when you hera a bang its bye bye computer. Its strange how its running fine!.. I wouldnt worry too much :D justr keep a close eye on it for a few days!

..or it could be 'pipes' .. a little nod towards ghostwatch fans there :P
 
Sure you didnt kick it? Would explain both the loud bang and the weird feeling on your foot, if you were sat funny then your leg may have fallen asleep too which is why it felt funny xD
