I have an athlon 3200+ and a radon 9800, my cpu temps are 60 on idle with all the fans on full. I keep crashing out on games I’m guessing due to temperature.

i have a coolmaster aero h/s and a gigabite board. The mother board has no holes in it around the processor. The graphics heat sink feels hot to the touch all the time.

What will be the best way for me to get better temps and lose noise?
Where can I buy a new motherboard with holes in it that still has the nforce2 chipset and agp slot as I think most moderns systems need them?
How quiet could I get air-cooling for the price of a zelman radiator?

What do you people this is the best option for me as noise is important?

That sounds more like a seating issue, rather than anything else. You might want to try reseating the heatsink with a bit of ~Arctic Silver 5 (available from the shop.)

Failing that, if you want to get a 'new' mobo then consider the Abit NF7-s ver , or the Asus A7N8x-e deluxe (make sure it's the -e deluxe, older ones had issues getting to 200FSB!)

There's usually someone selling one in the Members' Market, but you're a fair few posts shy from being allowed in there - failing that, keep an eye in the OcUK Clearance and B-Grade sections, often appear in there - or if all else fails there's always Fleabay (but I wouldn't pay more than £30ish for one new/used!)

(Apart from that, most socket a heatsinks attach via the socket, not the mobo, why don't you get : This ? it's going for peanuts and they're pretty effective.)

i have just cleaned the heat sink chip and fan and put it all back together with articsilver3. I am still getting 52 idle.

What will be the best way to lose noise and heat?

What case have you got? And also, what fan/s? I have the same CPU and it idles around 46c, and thats with a Thermaltake Volcano at half speed. As for the graphics card, you could pick up a new zalman cooler for it, they keep noise and heat down! ;)

Hi oblique. How are you 80mm fans positioned? I ask as if they're positioned incorrectly you could be creating an area of dead air around the HSF assembly and this could account for your high temps.

My 3200+ Barton hadn't used to reach 60 degrees under load, and that was with a retail HSF and just a couple of 80mm fans at the rear of my case.

the xp3200 cpus do tend to run a little on the hot side and since they have a small die size it is imparative that you have a decent cooler thats up to the job.

best one your gonna get that fits socket a systems is the thermaltake big typhoon. i have one on my second pc with xp-m2600 doing 2433mhz @1.8v load temps are under 52c with my nf7-s v2 board.

now the nf7-s has mounting holes around the cpu socket so it allowed the big typhoon to fit. but the msi board i used to have the xp-m in did not have mounting holes.
so i used a gigabyte g-power bl cooler. cpu ran at 2500mhz with 1.825v and temps never went above 55c.

now i use the g-power on my opteron since its a multiformat cooler so i saved loads of cash. hehehe.

i recommend you get a new cooler. the gigabyte g-power is recommended since its easy to fit and can be used on a different platform if you chose to migrate at a later date.

i built a server using a xp3200 cpu and a g-power bl cooler. server room is quite warm so case temps are around 30c. and the cpu at max load never goes above 48c which is very good.

theres always the glorious zalman CNPS9500, thats utterly fantastic, can't say enough good things about how well one of those cools my processor, at 2.6Ghz the temperature is still lower than at stock speed with stock cooler
