Help! Major issue with damaged GPU latch on mobo? Pics included.

Hey guys. I was planning to upgrade my 5770 to a new GPU, a 6950 most likely.

My PC was bought from mesh (i know i know) 18 months ago, and has an M4A78-VM mobo. I have not cracked open the hood in all of that time as I have not had need to. Now that I am looking to upgrade, I have been having a look- in this case to acertain whether I have the necessary amount of space in my case to house a 6950.

I disconnected the power cable from my 5770 then went to pop the latch to release it but it was being extremely stiff. My rule is if it seems to hard it's probably going to break so I stopped and upon closer inspection found that the latch is slightly out of place meaning that the mechanism does not leverage the GPU out in the way that it should. I have tried to move it back into place but obviously this is difficult as I have to be careful. As it stands right now I cannot get my GPU out of my mobo and it looks irreversably damaged.

Naturally, I am furious as the part was either damaged by the bloke at mesh or the mobo was already damaged and he neither paid enough attention to notice or did notice and simply didn't care.

Is there anything I can do to rectify this? Pictures are not the best I'm sorry but I did my best. If anybody can assist or offer any suggestions I would really appreciate it as as it stands it means ripping out my whole Mobo and getting a new one.

Thanks.

Sure if doesn't push in to release.
Also if it moves at all try wriggling card to see
if it comes out

Edit
can see pics now but hard to tell. The latch should pull away from card but only slightly. Try again and raise card out of socket as you do

you may have to get the card out with motherboard complete if you can,its only a plastic peg and arm, therfore should be a lot easier on a table in daylight

The problem is my camera is not very good so those pictures do not show up the issue. The bit which is supposed to push against the GPU to force it out is further along than it should be i.e. the latch is not properly in place, so no matter what amount of effort I use I am just putting pressure on the latch itself and not on the GPU if that makes sense?

VERY FRUSTRATING!!

All the clip does is prevent the card being removed accidentally. It doesn't lever the card at all. Although i can't make it out clearly from your fuzzy photos you should push the clip so it moves away from the card slot allowing you to then remove the card.

That's how it should be, nothing is damaged, just lift slightly with a finger at the yellow line I have put in and lift it towards the arrow and pull out your card

here's a close up from google so you can see what you are dealing with a little clearer.

I appreciate the help guys, obviously I am learning-however the latch is broken slightly. In the second picture there the two parts of the blue latch are locked in to eachother whereas on mine the teeth are slightly out of sync. However it should not affect me getting the card out.

One side of the card is now happy to come out it seems but the other side can't as it is screwed into the slots where I then plug my monitor into? They are really small screws and I dont have a screwdriver or tool this small. What tool do I need?

Thanks again.

I'm a bit confused. You say one end of the card comes out but the other end, where you plug the monitor in, doesn't. Does that mean that the end in the pictures, where the latch is, comes out now? If so then the other end should only be screwed in at the top of the endplate with one or more (depending on the card) normal-size screws.

He said its a MESH case, so they might have done something retarded.

Post a picture. It should just have 1-2 normal screws that are easy to access...... but MESH might have done something strange.

No, i have now managed to do it. I was simply ill informed but have now figured it out. Oh well, at least I now know how to do it!

The one sticking point now is space in the case. I want a 2gb 6950 but am unsure if it will fit. 560 ti is much smaller isnt it?
