Ok, took the heatpipe cooler off my 7800gtx recently to re-apply heatsink as I do it better than Nvidia, stupidly I threw away the ram cloth/thermal compound stuff and applied AS5 on the ram, now the ram doesnt touch the heatsink!

Anyong fitting a VF900 on their graphics card can you please send me some of those ram pads you get with refence cooler? I know a lot of the heatsinks use them and so do x1800xt's, cmon guys help me out my card will die if I dont lol, it starts artifiacting in games after ram gets hot.

I didn't think having heatsinks on the RAM was all that important... my 7800GT's are watercooled and their RAM is bare... doesn't even get hot

Yeah me neither, but these get really hot and start artifacting after a bit, like screen flashes greyish after a while.

Might be an odd question, but did you wipe the AS5 off the RAM chips? If you left it on they'll be storing heat, wiping it off will expose the chips to fresh air and might cool them a bit as the guy above said his RAM is bare.

No I didnt wipe the AS5 off lol, but I still want to have contact with the heatsink I dont want to take the risk, I'm using a x1800xt but im wanting to sell the 7800gtx.

So I need these ram things, 8 of them but 4 will do, anyone please!

Yeah but that'll cost me a fair bit, this heatpipe cooler is bloody good also never goes above 65C, if anyone if fitting a vf900 on their GPU please send me the ram pads I will pay for them!

I'm fitting a VF900 to my X1800 soon and would happily send you all my RAM pads for no cost, but it's going to be a while. :( A week or two at best. If nobody helps you out by then, I'll give you a shout.

You can buy thermal tape, I bought some of the good stuff Sekisui #5760 1"x6" £0.99 can't say where I found it. Dunno if its thick enough. But this may help, they may have other types, 6876221648

Thanks mate, if you wouldnt mind could you send them as soon as your ready, I'm not in a rush really as i'm selling it.

As for thermal tape, I bought some shinetsu akasa stuff, I wasnt aware how thin/soft the stuff is, its jsut like AS5 really so that didnt work lol, thanks anyways though.

Just one more note Exsomnis, I uninstalled ATI Tray tools and hey presto ATI tool works, I want ati tray tools but if I cant overclock theres no point in keeping it :(

the £0.99 is not thick enough mate, I got it here :)

@Vegeta: give it ton of AS5, it will touch the sink eventually :p be careful though, dont let any AS5 on the PCB :D

Sorry to be dragging you off-topic with this, but how did you get ATi Tool to work? I can't get my head around the 2D/3D stuff and it's sending me a bit loopy TBH.

Are you using ATi Tool with the Catalyst Control Centre? Because I need some way to control my resolution, refresh rates, antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, and Catalyst A.I.

Thanks for letting me know.

I dont use CCC, and I'm not 100% on ATI tool.

I got ATI Tool to work by just install the display driver and ATI tool, ATI tool doesnt seem to work when you have ATI Tray Tools also installed on your system (yeah bloody annoying).
I ATI Tool to overclock/scan for artifacts, once i've found clocks I like I set them via rivatuner and tell it to use them everytime I start windows.
You can voltmod via ATI Tool also, but i'm not sure how to keep these permanent so that I dont always have to have ATI Tool open to do it, might need to change it in the bios.

Gah. :( That's what I was afraid of. I like to use either CCC or ATT for controlling all my video options, I would go mad with just the standalone driver.

Looks like I'll just be using Overdrive to clock for now then.

Thanks for helping me out with this. :)

I use ATI tray tools for Artifacting and overclocking, it has it all. Why would you want to change that over to ATI tool? I save my profiles and everything through that with no problems.

ATI Tray Tool doesnt allow overclocking with x1000 cards.
