Bought a gaming PC a few years and recently started using it again, obviously it is outdated and is need of a upgrade it consists of:

Operating system: Windows XP
System model: 939Dual-SATA2
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core processor 6400+
Memory: 4GB RAM
GFX Card: Radeon X1950 Pro

Is there anything from the above worth keeping or should i just scrap it all and start fresh? Im yet to build my first PC so will need a simplified walkthrough of what im looking and how it is to be installed, I would like to play such games as ANNO 2070 on full graphics as in some of the videos I have seen it looks amazing and my PC just cant handle it even on low graphics :(

Any help will be much appreciated cheers guys

I would say my budget is between £600-£700, im also going to get a new monitor to handle the new graphics as my old one is a cheap one I got with the system so will maybe add some more money to the budget for that.

I would try to add extra budget for a 2500K. if you have a SATA drive and optical that you can reuse, than that would free up the budget, although old SATA drives would be noisy, a bit slow.

And maybe a better case. Could even make it super compact with a Fractal Design Core 1000.

Sorry stupid question here but what do you mean by a 2500K ? Ive got my original Hiper power supply whether thats worth reusing ? not sure what the output wattage is on it though. The case i currently have is a Thermaltake Soprano VB1000BWS would all this fit in ? If so i can also reuse to add more to the budget, will defiantly need new optical drives and SATA drives as I think they are pretty out dated and I would like a fresh SATA drive to install windows 7 on.

He means changing the processor from the i3 2120 (dual core) CPU he specced to the better i5 2500K (quad core) CPU.

If you don't need an OS you could remove that from Olivier's spec and change the i3 to the i5 - job done. Nice spec, nice machine, good to go.

And your old PSU? No, definitely not.

Right cheers for all the help guys, one final question then im going to start ordering. Will i be able to play ANNO 2070 on high graphics ? thats the main reason im doing an upgrade
