Now im looking at building a good sized lapdesk (Big enough for a full sized keyboard and mouse at end) iv looked online and found solutions like the futura and similar but i feel i could make something with a section of lightweight wood, memory foam bottom covered in a cloth material of some form (or make a bean bag kinda thing underneath) and top it with a boogie bug xl cut to size (or the ocuk equivalent)

Anyone done similar or got any hints and tips?

A few thoughts:
Make sure you have the padded underside covered with washable breathable material, especially if you're using this thing for long periods (playing games, watching films, writing yer novel). Something that also grips your trousers instead of sliding around is a bonus.
Try and design in some kind of cooling, ideally for both the underside of the laptop (if you ever use one on this) and especially for your legs.
Lightweight wood is not be a good idea - Heavier is more stable, especially if you're typing a lot. Obviously not solid oak, but not so light that you can lift it effortlessly either.

Needs to be light enough to lift easily without my laptop snapping through it also if i lift each side up. Im currently using a shelf made out of 2cm thick wood/board but its no good
