Hi

I am looking for a new desktop, I have been looking at Dell / Alienware but quote come in at £5k!. I built my last computer a AMD 3800+ / 2GB / 7900 Ultra - its done well but no good for todays games. So want to start fresh, and think self build is best bang for the pound.

I have £2-3k budget for the computer excluding monitors (looking at 2x OC 24inch - good reviews and good price!)

Looking at a Quad core, thinking 64bit Vista. What do people think about nForce as a chipset - I had a nForce 4 last time. I would like to overclock, never tried before. I was wondering if water cooling is worth all that? I have no idea where to start with it. Or should I just get some decent coolers / fans. I want a motherboard with plenty of USB ports - front and back. Ideally RAID, 1gb LAN, eSATA. I have had raptors in the past and thinking 2x 150gb raptor for system disk and then 1 x 1tb for storage, I have a load of disks anyway so will add those in.

I want a fast machine, but don't care if all I am getting is a few extra points just want that sweet point before price goes silly. I have a good budget! :-) I see lots of new stuff coming out like 9000 series cards, new 45n CPU etc - is it worth waiting? I like my FPS games and looking forward to playing COD4, Crysis, Duke4!

if anyone could help me spec something that would be great!

Thanks for any help!

I would say wait until the new Intel CPU's and Nvidia GPU's are available. Although even if you were to get a high spec PC today it would still be a very capable PC when all this new hardware is available. But if I were you, I would try and wait till all this new hardware comes out :).
