Hello all.

I'm planning to make a complete system overhaul this year. I'm mainly a gamer, web browser, and I watch movies. I've already bought a ASUS ASTRAL 5080 OC so I've got a head start (yes I know I should have bought a new CPU first but I couldn't help my self lol). My current specs are...

i9 9900KS
ASUS ROG Maximus Z390
32GB DDR4 4000MHz CL19
1050W PSU

I've already got £700 after selling my ASUS TUF 4070 Ti SUPER and my total budget is £1500-£1700.

Help appreciated!

so am5 9800x3d/b850/32gb 6000c30 build would be my chioce, B...but case very subjectivce..you like standard case, dual chamber, rgb? always an arguement about 64/32gb ram..I'd only go 64gb if you know the game you're going to play is going to utilise it..generally if you play the 2 maybe 3 games that do you know about it already (most notable being DCS..Digital Combat Simulator..which can eat 128gb ram if you want it too)..but with the budget you have that option...
Unless you need 40gb speed usb4, don't see the need going higher than a b850 board for gaming, watching movies etc

edit: what psu have you got(make/model..6yrsd old?)

ha haha , snap
Couldn't wait I've done a build you could do the RGB one if you like :D

Full tower.

Antec Flux case is stunning imo comes with 6 fans and can put the 360mm aio in the top.

9800x3d one of the fastest gaming cpu along with 32 GB of 6000mhz memory but could up that to 64gb if preferred.

2 motherboards b850 Tomahawk is a lot of board for the money or the X870E Tomahawk if you want the bells and whistles.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,663.88 (includes delivery: £0.00)

this would be along the lines of my core components, leaving you with £450 for case/fans/aircooler or aio

if you want to upgrade above you can go 64GB ram, for £100 more, or if you want to futture proof your psu for £120 you can get the nzxt 1500W psu(expensive but obvs can easily handle a 5090 and has dual 2x6 connector, so if next top end psu comes out and does have dual pin, you'll be covered)...if you just keep your 5080 until you replace whole system then don't bother with psu of course

i did just relook and see you went for top end astral card? Would you prefer a Asus mobo to keep a theme? the b850 tuf board is £259, the strix boards are ridiculous price, though you could go the Asus B650E-F strix for £210 (I run the strix B650E-E board at present)

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to buy the 9950X3D (its my dream CPU) and not the 9800X3D, basically I want the best of both worlds.. Speed/3D V-cache and core-count. TBH I don't exclusively play games, web-browse and watch movies I also like to convert movies to other formats IE avi to mp4/mkv and so on which relies on extra CPU cores. I mean could I pull off buying the 9950X3D with the budget Ive got? I dont need a new case Ive got the ASUS ROG Strix Helios case which I want to keep using and it will save me a few hundred quid. I could stretch my budget to £2000 if need be. ALSO I dont need new/extra storage so thats more money saved.

EDIT: I'd like to keep using ASUS products as if I've bought them for 20 years and I trust them and I've never had any problems with them. How does a 9900X3D (12 core) stack up against a 9800X3D in gaming and converting movies to other formats? if I can't get a 9950X3D due to availability that is.

The performance loss in gaming is relatively small versus the 9800X3D (same as the 7900X3D versus the 7800X3D), but it is still a config I'd avoid if possible.

Also is the 9950X3D miles better than Intel's best offering like the 285K in terms of gaming and video editing? The 285K is considerably cheaper too and it's available. I want to keep all options on the table. What do you think?

If gaming is the priority you would always buy the X3D CPUs over the Core Ultra CPUs. The 285K is still (even with the latest patches) an inconsistent performer, though fast (especially CUDIMM) RAM does seem to help it perform significantly better.

Your probably the wrong person to ask but if you were to guess have you got any idea when the 9950X3D will be back in stock?
You might want to keep a watch on this thread:

Based on what competitors seem to think, I'd guess it will be soon.
