Ok so I’ve pulled my finances together and I have £2000 to build a rig for gaming/streaming this will have to include the monitor....I have a keyboard, may need a mouse

(all the camera stuff and capture cards I already have)

not averse to ordering the parts and putting it together myself if it means I get more bang for my buck(although I haven’t built one before from scratch). But is it better just to have OC build it seeing as I won’t have an OS key?

Hi welcome :)

Here is something just to give you an idea. Some of the parts below are out of stock at the minute due to the ongoing virus thing so you might find them elsewhere if you are shopping around.

The case is personal preference so you might well want something different.

Good value motherboard that can handle a stock 3900X/3950X.

The R9 3900X would be the next step up on the cpu if you have money left over. It would help when streaming if not using the gpu to encode. If you went with an Nvidia gpu then you have the option to use nvenc.

There is a cheaper Powercolor Dual version if you wanted to save money there. It might run a bit hotter/louder than the Red Devil though. The Gigabyte Gaming OC is another good card, as well as the Sapphire Pulse/Nitro.

If you can find a cheapish 3600MHz CL16 kit then go with that. Otherwise no need to spend a fortune on Ram. You can tune it with the Ryzen Dram calculator anyway.

You should be able to find a cheaper NVMe SSD like the Sabrent Rocket or Western Digital Blue SN550 etc.

The Monitor is also something you can shop around for. The Pixio PX7 which isn't sold on here is usually good value.

You can buy a cheap Windows key if you Google it. Then just download the media creation tool from microsoft website to a usb stick.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,772.68 (includes shipping: £20.82)

Agree with that being pretty much the "basic" kit to start with.
Though would consider 3200MHz as starting level for Zen2.

For CPU you can update it to improved architecture one with higher core count in like year or two to keep PC good for many more years.

And in graphics cards it's literally historically bad time to buy expensive card.
There has never been as much empty air in prices of more expensive cards than what Nvidia puts there.
Similarly future value for the price is just full of hot air and next-gen consoles will crash their value like MCAS 737 Max.

If you know you'll be multitasking/runnning stuff while gaming, 2x16GB of memory could be sensible straight away now that DRAM prices are good.

And in case of case if you know you'll need good expandability for extra ports, cards readers etc, or just want option to add newer ports for keeping case current for long time, you might want to look good old older designs with 5.25" bays.
These "modern" design cases are simply disposable fashion toys.
I can add any new ports into my soon 12 years old case to keep it going for another dozen years, before which most current fashion cases are no doubt outdated in connections.

hey, for that money you can even push x570, should you want to. Though tbh I wish I hadn't. If you do and you want the best flexibility/future proofing there's just one board IMO: Aorus Master. And I say this as someone who bought the alternative msi. Just price hawk and wait for the amazon cycle to drop it down and you can sometimes get it for just £20 different to the Msi ACE, which is worth every penny. Cheaper x570 boards get a lot of grumbling about, especially the msi range. With hindsight though I'd have gone B450. For win7 support if nothing else

you can get 4TB 5400rpm seagate for £80-90, and with its hefty cache it works well. I don't notice a difference to 7200 drives even on bulk transfers vs the ones I've got installed anyway.

as I'm very new to this, what do you think about the prebuilt machines offered on the OC site? if you were to pick one and make changes on it, what would suit my needs?

You can ask them to build you a system to your own spec if you don't want to do it yourself, but not sure how the current situation is affecting the timeline on that. If you want something ASAP then you are better building it yourself.

don't be afraid of self building. It is liberating IMO. Just do your research, make sure everything shuold be compatible before buying it etc.

Just wanted to come and say thanks for everyone’s help, I got the parts and put it together, started streaming and got my twitch affiliate pretty quickly. So thanks again for the help
