I've been given permission to upgrade, and was looking at a 1080ti. But then have been reading a lot about bottlenecking.

Just wondering if its worth it or I'd need to look at upgrading the CPU as well, which I don't really want to do.

I'm runnning a 4690k with a vega 56. Checking the cpu/gpu utilisation in HWiNFO and looking at the ryzen 1800 vs my cpu in userbenchmark.com I would say its not bottlenecked (single and quad usage was on par just the multi core was way behind). Neither the GPU or CPU was 100% while playing warhammer 40k: eternal crusade. GPU was at stock no power limit increase.

Hawell's i7 is a very capable gaming cpu, The 4770k is basically a 4790k on a slightly lower clock, I'm using one with a 1080 at the moment and it'll be fine for the forseeable future. It will be fine for at least another generation of gpu's.

Plus you can add a little overclock to it so it last's longer.

Thats great, thanks.

Now I just need to decide which one to get, which I don't really know much about; It's a bit of a minefield.

I'm not really constrained by budget, on this front; I don't need watercooled items and sadly don't think I can fit the hybrid coolers in my case.

So I guess I'm just after advice on which of the plethora of cards to get. I'll be getting an ultra wide monitor later in December, currently I've got a crappy 27", but I want one that will play at superwide resolutions well, VR I'm now actually tempted by, and I'd prefer one thats as quiet as possible (whilst I realise that air cooled cards are never that quiet.

Well I can only comment on ones have own, but the Aorus is very quiet. Normal or extreme.

If you want a 2 slot card at a good price (given the current market) the SC2 gaming is a decent option at £728.99.

Both cards are silent when under 50c.

True.
I have the 1080ti extreme and is very quiet card card, even if it auto boost running at 2025 all the time.

I guess the EVGA SC2 it is then. I don't really see much difference between the two (with a little bit of overclocking the SC2 should be equivalent), except for the £80 I can throw towards the new monitor., and it looks like it only loses out to the Auros by minuscule amounts on benchmark tests.

Cheers guys :).
