Help me choose a 24" monitor.

Hi all,

I've been browsing reviews and forums for the past few days to try and find a nice 24" monitor for home with a budget of around £200. I'll be dual-screening with an LG L225WS but consistency isn't really an issue as this monitor will probably be reserved for browser windows and command lines.

It kind of seems like all the nice monitors (like the PX2370) are 23" models with no bigger brothers, which is a bit of a shame since I really want the extra size for movies and games. I'm quite keen on the Samsung BX2450, but I gather that this is a little overpriced at the moment. I also looked at the P2450H but I'm reading a lot about it not performing as well as other monitors in the price bracket and also not being very stable, which puts me off a bit since my current monitor is practically rooted to the desk.

Any other obvious choices?

A certain site is selling the Dell U2311H for > £211 delivered. Will be better than most TN panels, 23" but 16:9 format. Very good screen for the price!

That is a very tempting offer but I have reservations because I really would prefer a 24" screen. How does the U2311H compare to the G2410H? How much difference will the IPS panel make, if we ignore viewing angles?

Also, will I notice the 3ms difference in response time in games? I'm guessing not, but it's worth asking anyway.

Edit: Best I can find is £216 inc. VAT with free delivery. Is that what you mean?

Okay, probably gonna go for the U2311H. Someone mentioned on another forum that they think there may have been some problem with revision A01. Aware of anything?

I am in the same situation, looking for a 24" monitor for £200.
I have had to save a little longer to push my budget up a little further.
Despite the negativity towards the TN 120hz panels, for me I have decided that will be my best option. I figured that out of the box I am not going to be buying a blury wishy washy monitor regardless of who or what, and viewing angle is not an issue when I sit at my desk.
so i am down to 3 pretty much identical items from 3 different manufacturers.

The thing with viewing angles is not to do with viewing the screen to the side - but instead moving your head a bit and the colours shifting - or viewing the screen head-on from 12inches away, but the colours appearing different at the sides of the screen. This can happen with TN panel monitor and is one of the reasons why people buy IPS/VA monitors (aside from the other benefits like much better colour accuracy).

As for response time, you really can't hold the manufacturer quoted specs as gospel - they all fudge them so much it's crazy. In independent tests the U2311H performs fine for response time and is fine for gaming with.
