Hiys folks,

Ideas if you please. I'll tell your where I'm at. circa £25-30k

I'm having a headache of a time trying to nail down a car for the summer here is the list.

996 turbo cab
RS4 cab
SLK55 AMG

The issues and headaches are re-sale. extended Warranty and servicing.

Audi extended warranty seems to cost the most
porsche servicing can be NASA prices

brakes on a SLK55 Around the £2k mark. Admitedly if the discs last 40k not much of an issue.

At the other end of the scale is do i just get a 10k S2000. My heart says 996TT The mrs says the SLK or Rs4

Help
Cheers folks

I was going to suggest the Audi TT Roadster, but didn't realise until now it only comes in standard and RS, there is no S model. I am guessing the standard is too slow and RS is well out of budget.

Dear god... where is this thread going? No TT-S? RS4 CAB?????? are these not very different cars? Is it just a fast convertible youre after?

Better than the 996 (this months Porsche GT magazine rated the 2.9 better than the base 997 in terms of outright fun). It's designed as a convertible to start with, surprisingly practical if you don't need 4 seats and you can get a low mileage 2008 model for your budget.

Edit - just seen the turbo bit - guess you're looking for more HP

SLK55 AMG all the way. A stunning car. I love my SLK :D

Edit: Saw an SLK55AMG for 20K recently - was in excellent condition and low mileage too. It was sold quickly though!

I wish I could buy a £25k car "for the summer". :p

The Idea is buy before sell after losing as little as poss.

Sl55 was on the list but just doesnt sit right for some reason. ( Dont know why )

The SL55 in the link hurt my eyes Sooooo much red.

Didn't realise there was a new SLK due out.
Thats the problem

You find a car spend hours researching on various forums etc then move onto the next one.

Would have been easier to just buy the cayman. But I'm after a convertible.

Running costs have to factor ( Not so much fuel ) But dont fancy getting spanked on Audi's DRC. Or Mercs Brakes Or Porsche's Engine.

The 996 turbo ticks every box but is at top end of the budget and there are several Indy's around that can provide aftercare and warranty. But if It costs £5k to get it up to standard its well over budget.

Good point, forgot about the R172. Since you are hoping to resell after the summer, an SLK55 might not be a great idea. Personally I prefer the SLK55 to the SL.

I'll throw a random one in. I will get flamed for it but:

MINI Cooper S JCW Cabrio :)

Will hold it's value
Reasonable Servicing prices
Great Performence
