Hey all, I made a post in the upgrade help section but it got lost under the weight of other spec me threads so figured I might have more joy here

as per the title I’m after some advice as to what to replace my 5820k with

I’m well out of touch and with all the options in terms of cpu choice a little lost

From reading some of the threads on here it seems best bang for buck choice is a toss up between

7600X, 13600k & 5800x3d

It’s only going to be used for gaming @ 3440 x 1400

current set up is as follows

5820k @ 4.5ghz
16gb @2400mhz
Msi x99 krait mobo
Powercolor 6800XT red dragon
Corsair 850rmx
It all also be going in a custom loop in terms of cooling

Any advice on something that will give me a good few years of decent performance would be appreciated

Thanks

Fritzo

7600x performs the same in gaming as the 5800x3d but you have the cost of platform as you need ddr5 which has become more affordable. Also AMD are known to extend the life of there platform while intel is at the end but doesn't mean it won't last.

Choices.

5800x3d should be discounted unless it was a drop in upgrade.

You just have to decide if you go Intel 13600k with DDR4 or DDR5

V

7600x and DDR5 .

Many thanks for that least it’s narrowed it down to 2, having just spent the last 30mins doing some research I’m starting to lean towards the 13600k on ddr5

I’m assuming there’s no real benefit pairing a amd cpu with a amd GPU?

I’ve got a budget in mind of 700quid but that needs to allow for cpu/mobo/ram and a water block but could stretch if there is something materially better up the food chain from either?

Personally, I would discount the X3D for a new build, but it's a great option if you already have an AM4 board.

The 7600X strikes me as a CPU you only buy for entry onto AM5, but even with the price cuts it is a bit pricey (especially as a stopgap until AM5 X3D).

The 13600K has better multi-tasking than the 7600X, so if you do other things with the PC than just gaming, it is better than both the 7600X and the 7700X.

Will you be overclocking?

Z790 or b760 woukd be a drop in soloution.

Z for overclocking and limited overclocking i think on b chipset boards but you would have to look into that . You can use previous chipset motherboards but will have to update the bios on z690 b660 with bios flash button.

DDR5 5600mhz is about £150 for 32gb .

Wi-Fi needed ?

Yeah if there’s meaningful gains to be had then I’ll overclock, it’ll be water cooled so thermals won’t be a problem

Last 3 setups have been overclocked just want sure there was headroom for it anymore with stock speeds already boosting pretty high

So guessing I’ll need a z790?

Don’t need WiFi

Was looking at ram wasn’t sure if I should be looking at 6000mhz? That being said no idea how much difference it makes in the grand scheme

Suggestions for ram and a mobo would be welcomed

5600mhz is fine but if you want to pay extra yhen go for it but check out reviews first.

I can get the above for 800quid shopping around and having done some research suggests the Kingston ram should be Hynix and overclock better?

Dunno if the tomahawk is worth the extra over the prime if I’m going to overclock?

Ultimately is the above worth the extra otherwise the difference saved will pay for a water block
