Hey Hey

So my Speedlink Medusas (V1) gave up the ghost after 3 years. I want to replace them, looking about I can see the following as replacements. Around £70 - £80 budget but lower would be nice!

Logitech G35 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-070-LG

PRO - Good reviews, 7.1 (USB) Surround
CONS - Makes my Sound Card Redundant

Razer Charcharias - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-007-RA

PROS - V. Good Audio Quality, uses X-Fi sound card I already have.
CONS - Not Surround

Medusa NX 5.1 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-025-ST

PROS - Cheapest, 5.1 Surround, uses sound card
CONS - Still requires USB power, prob not best quality in sound and tangible terms

Mainly used for RIFT, Vent, the odd bit of music and a few FPS games - Fallout 3, BFBC2. Any other ideas, I am open to suggestions.

A appreciate any input.

You could use the CMSS 3D of your Xtreme Audio, and get something like the Carcharias', which would be virtual surround sound, or get maybe some Roccat Kave's, which use multiple drivers.

Both ways of getting surround sound via headphones/headset, has it's fans. Some people swear that headsets that have multiple drivers are better, whereas some reckon virtual is better and more accurate. Personally, I prefer the latter.

I wouldn't go for the G35's, as they are virtual. Reason being, your sound card can do that with a stereo headset.

Might be best to stick with something like the Medusa's or Roccat's, that use multiple drivers. I've seen some people who went from multiple driver headsets, to virtual surround, and didn't like the effect. There are people though, who did prefer virtual surround. Until you've tried both, it's hard to say what you will prefer, but it might be best to stick with what you know, rather than risk being disappointed with what virtual surround sound provides.

I think the Roccats might then be the way to go, I have heard many good things about the set and the reviews on OCUK are great. Cheaper than others on OCUK as well :-)

Thanks for the help.

Love my Carcharias, had em for at least 10 months now and can't fault them. Using with an Asus DG to great effect. Very comfy, good sound all round, good positional audio too with soundcard 3d audio on.

i like the Sharkoon X-TATIC v3 5.1, a bit out of your budget though and lots of wires, but good if you own a console as well

Thanks guys!

I received my Roccat Kave 5.1's two days ago and OMG!

They sound amazing! The mic is very clear, the guys on vent couldnt recognise me! I thought the remote would be too big but it sits on the desktop nicely.

Thanks for the recommendation!
