I'm off to uni in October and will be taking my desktop with me- so this monitor will be used for both gaming and movies/TV (will use a TV card) as I will only have one screen.

- Size: 23-24"

- Must have HDMI (and preferably decent speakers) so I can hook up any consoles I may acquire in the future.

Budget is £200 or less, though in exceptional circumstances I may stretch this budget a bit further.

I have no idea if an LED backlit or normal LCD is most suitable for me, nor do I know what the best monitors are for the tasks I've outlined above so that's why I'm here.

Thanks guys! :D

I don't generally recommend going down this road - but I hav been somewhat won over recently:

Howabout a TV?

The LG 32LD450 can currently be had for £219 if you have a look around. This TV has low input lag (~16ms), low response time (quoted at 4ms by the manufacturer), 1920x1080 resolution, a high quality panel (either IPS or A-MVA depending on what version you get), speakers built in, two HDMI inputs and a freeview tuner.

Considering these features, your uses and the price - it is worth a look and this thread is worth a read (relates to how good it is as a PC monitor).

It does look very good indeed, but considering that I'm going to be living in halls for a full year, it isn't going to be practical considering the sheer size of the thing. Even a 26-27" is pushing it really. :(

I really don't see that working on the dinky desk that I'll no doubt be lumped with in the room unfortunately.

Thanks for the suggestion though! :D

If you can get it for a decent price, I heavily recommend the Dell U2311H.

- IPS Panel
- Dell do excellent monitors
- Excellent for the price (£200/250 (you can probably get it for cheaper if you hunt around))
- I thoroughly recommend it.

if you can find yourself a second hand LG 22" get one! ive seen some floating about for £80ish has DVI but can convert HDMI - DVI then can spend the spare on some speakers.

Just got the U2311H - it's stunning! Way better than the 3-4 year old Sammy I had. Everything looks fantastic on it, games, movies.. even the windows desktop comes to life! :D

Another vote for the U3211h. Thats the same use as mine gets, just run the audio from your PC through your hifi.
