Hi guys,

I'm trying to choose between the two monitors below. Both are high end 32" 4K monitors. The dell is cheaper and has HDMI 1.0 and the asus has more ports on the back including HDMI 2.0. The monitor will be used connected to the Dell XPS 15 (2017).

Please help me choose between the two. It's not for gaming, graphic design or video editing. It's mainly for productivity where a lot of stuff needs to be on the screen at once. I'm upgrading from the PB278Q whic has a resolution of 2560x1440. I've never used 4K before. But all I know is that my current resolution is no longer enough so I need more. I considered ultrawide too but in the end I decided 4K will have more pixels.

Thanks!

For professional usage, I would always choose Dell - and indeed insist on them in the office. You get an on-site swap warranty that's good for even 1 bright/stuck pixel, and they basically live forever. I have a decade-old unit that's still good, if a tad warm.

That said, check the outputs on your laptop. Not sure HDMI 1.0 will cut it, so if you don't have display port then the Dell might not work for you.

Ive found Dell quality control not to be what it used to be tbh.
Had to return a couple of panels till I got one that was satisfactory...bad backlighting issues.

I sent a couple of dells back for horrible yellow tinge and back light bleed.

My previous 24 inch monitor was a dell and the screen was perfect. Although the power button broke and i had to leave it in standby permanently.

I currently have a viewsonic and i had an appalling time getting one that even worked. I'll never buy viewsonic again.

Hi all, thanks for your replies. Sorry I couldn't respond earlier as I was travelling. The Dell XPS 15 (2017) will have a thunderbolt 3 port to which I will attach a docking unit which will have a whole bunch of ports including display port and hdmi. So I will have display port available. My only thought was it may be nice to have HDMI 2.0 on the monitor now as I'll be keeping this for a while and it'll be futureproof that way in case I want to connect other stuff to it too. My current monitor is asus and has been fantastic for years and years. If you have any other thoughts do let me know.

You can see the thunderbolt 3 docking unit here.
