I am ordering one on Friday but can't decide between the Dell 2209WA and the HP LP2475w both are IPS panels which i mainly want however i can't decide between them.Is the £230 or so difference worth it? is there much difference between 1650x1080 res and 1920x1200? i got an i7 rig with a GTX275 so perhaps i should go for the HP model?

My friend tells me to buy the Dell and wait for the new LED lcds next year.

Anyone who owns either of these please give views.:) (or anyone else who knows the difference between those resolutions whilst gaming)

Just a point that the LED LCD's are generally LED backlit, despite the impression they seem to be trying to give that it is actually an LED screen itself...

Ah ok fair enough, what monitor would you pick of those 2 i listed anyway? i am on a 19 inch CRT at the moment which goes 1600x1200 res max @ 75hz but guess even the Dell will demolish it for gaming/image quality anyway lol.

Maybe not for gaming in some respects, surprisingly. All LCD monitors are inherently inferior in terms of response time versus a good CRT monitor, basically they take a while from receiving image data to actually displaying it, and this can result in the "ghosting" or motion blurring that early LCD's in particular are notorious for. That being said, they are improving significantly and to many people the input lag is not a problem. In professional grade monitors like the Dell they often have "gaming modes" which may reduce the colour processing/image processing somewhat in exchange for reduced processing latency - thereby reducing "input lag".

So all in all, it isnt a simple answer. What one person finds acceptable, antoher person might not. Have a read of the HP LP2475w thread to see the large number of opinions. We're all still awaiting a proper review for the new Dell 24" IPS monitor.

I would say the 2209WA seems to be an excellent investment, I'm thinking of getting one myself - just wish there was such a well-priced 24" version.

All I can say is that I own the 2209wa and its incredible. So it the customer service. One dead/stuck pixel on a panel and that bad boy gets swapped out.

Well i ordered the HP LP2475w today since i had enough cash i thought why not, hope i made a good choice since the Dell one looked incredibly good aswell and thanks for the info people.

Can't wait til it arrives, i mean i am on a 19 inch CRT currently so i bet it's a huge upgrade.;)

The Dell 2209WA is a great monitor.I spent many months trying different montiors and for me a 22inch or above monitor needs to be a non TN type screen.Trust me you will not regret buying a dell 2209WA!
