Hi all,

I am going to purchase one of these phones over the weekend and was wondering if any of you have any views on each phone and if I can ask a few questions.

If anyone has one of these phones can you please post here with your views as I am undecided what one to buy.

I will be getting either phone with Co Pilot satnav software installed and was wondering if Co Pilot is any good and can I install TomTom if I dont like the Co Pilot software?

Does these smartphones act like a PDA where if the battery goes flat you lose all your saved data in main memory (i.e. not stored on a memory card)?

Do they support mp3 ringtones and if so is the ringing volume loud or is it low?

What are your general thoughts on these phones for everyday use?

Sorry for the amount of questions but I really want one of these phones and dont know what one to buy.

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

I have co-pilot on my mda compact, I find it excellent.
You can always uninstall it and install tom-tom as well or instead of.
The MDA Compact version 1 definitely loses your data and installed progrmas if it goes flat. I don't know if the others do. The XDA exec does not though.

I find the MDA compact fine for everyday use and have no issues with ringtone volume.
How much of my expereince holds true for the MDA Compact II is yet to be seen, built in wifi would be so nice though.

MDA Compact II doesn't lose data when it goes flat. I'm running TomTom on mine and its fine, no probs at all. I got this over the Vario because I thought it would be the best compromise for Phone/PDA. After 3 months usage, I still believe that to be true.
Had a bit of a problem getting my SD WiFi card to work with it, Down to T-Mobile software, bypassed all that and it works fine now. Oh how I wish it had 2 SD slots though.

ps Yes they support MP3 ringtones.

I used the below articles amongst others, to make my choice.

MDA Vario

MDA Compact II

Went for the MDA Vario which I received today.
As far as I can tell there's no inbuilt WiFi in the Compact II
although there definately is in the Vario.
They do support MP3 ringtones and I'd assume you can adjust the volume (not used mine yet -waiting for me after work :) ).
Neither of the phones lose the data if the battery dies.

I'll report back on the Vario tonight.
