Hello people, ok so I will get right to the point, my old Q6600 spec PC is starting to struggle a bit and I think its time I invested into a new computer. I've come up with a starting spec but wanted to get advice of forum regulars and PC building veterans.

CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-358-IN
MOBO: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-447-AS
MEM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-294-CS
GPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-129-MS
HDD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-336-WD
PS: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-120-AN
FAN: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-029-CM
CASE: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-196-CM

The total comes up to around £1000 which is pretty much my budget and i want to Squeeze as much as i can out of this system (overlclocked) since it will be a gaming machine and at times used for rendering/encoding

Please give any suggestions as to change of spec, better offers or products, anything that will help me get the best deal and configuration in terms of price and quality.

Any help is appreciated

thank you

First of all you don't want the triple-channel ram, that was on older I7's. Get a double channel pair.

Secondly, do you need the I7-2600k? If gaming then the i5-2500k is the better option.

I'd stear clear of Asus boards as there have been reports of problems with the current crop of P/H67 ones (I personally experienced this), Gigabyte or MSI seem to be the most stable.

Cooler is fine (I've got it on my 2500k and see very low temps).

Do you need an optical drive? No IDE ports, so it needs to be SATA.

• The 2500K is just as fast for games - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287 - if you think the 2600K is worth extra, then go for it.
• Dual channel RAM kit.
• PSU actually fits the CASE;)
• Motherboard supports SLI/Crossfire symmetrically.
