I've just built a new system and with the price drop on the AMD cards I thought now would be a good time to get the graphics card.
I'm at 1440p on a 3570k with 8GB.
Budget wise I could probably just stretch to a 7950 but if there's better value with a 7850 or 7870 I'd prefer to spend as little as possible
I mainly play MMOs (WoW, RIFT, Guild Wars 2 etc) which I know aren't the most demanding games, but I'd also like to be able to play a bit of BF3 and Skyrim as well as keep my options open for new titles.
I've seen a factory overclocked non-reference 7850 for £150 elsewhere which seems like a steal but I'm also tempted by the MSI 7870 Hawk here for £210 or that HIS 7950 for £240.
I know I can always spend more for a better card and that the 7950 will give me the best performance, but at their respective price points what do you think would be the best value? Will spending 60% more on a 7950 give me 60% better performance over the 7850? Would the 7950 be overkill for my needs or would I find myself hampered by the 7850?
Any advice gratefully received.
