Right , i have a decision to make.

Currently i have :-

3770k , clocks well to 4.8 , 16gb 2133 ram and a sabertooth z77

4930k , 32 gb 1866 ram 4x8gb and a sabertooth z79

Either of these will be cooled by a custom loop.

Basically ones going to stay and one is going to go.

Which would you choose and why ?

Cheers :)

Don't know if serious if honest :o

Both the 3770K and 4930k are built on the same architecture (Ivy Bridge) so they have the same IPC per Thread / Core.

The difference is the 4930k has 6 Cores and 12 Threads, compare that with the 3770K which has 4 Cores and 8 Threads. so your getting 50% more threads = 50% higher performance in multi-threaded tasks.

The down side is, given that the 4930k is a much bigger chip it may not clock as high as the 3770K, maybe 4.4Ghz vs your cited 4.8Ghz on the 3770K, its a difference of about 8%, even if only using one to 8 threads you're not going to notice that much.

So if all you do is play games you may not see a difference or the 3770K maybe slightly faster with a higher overclock, tho in some games, even DX11 games you may see the 4930k a bit faster.

For gaming its a mixed bag.
But for production work, rendering / encoding ecte... the 4930k is almost always going to be at least 40% faster.

With out a single thought the 4930k is the one i would keep, some 3770k owners would hand over the 3770K and their left arm in exchange for the 4930k.
