Hey all,

Just installed my new Samsung F1 drive and have formatted it and I am now ready to copy over all the data from my old Samsung 160gb onto this one.

My old drive has 2 partitions on and I would like it the same on my new hard drive if this is possible. One partition contains a Windows XP boot and the other is just used for storage.

Just to help I thought I would post a screenshot of how its currently looking:

Now before I even start I thought I would ask you lot what will be the best way to make this work, so on my new hard drive I still have my XP boot and lots more storage on the other partition.

Whats the best software to use or can it be done easy enough in Vista?

Ussually I would just go ahead and do things but I dont want to loose any data so thought I would ask before I even start.

Thanks, Sam

The storage part of the 160GB drive is easy enough as you can just proceed with a file copy, but the bootable WinXP (is this dual boot?) is a bit more tricky. You can't just copy system files over so if you expect to boot into WinXP again you need to clone the drive (create a disk image). You did not need to partition or format the new drive yet unless you just want to copy the non-system files (i.e., rather than recreate a WinXP boot disk).

You need to confirm what you want to do, and whether that WinXP partition was bootable.

Sorted now,

Ending up using a program called Acronis and all went well:

Configured my XP / Vista dual boot aswell using a program called EasyBCD and everything is running smooth :)
