Hey guys

I just bought a 40 inch 4k HDR TV

I want to connect it to my PC, my 1080TI

Currently the 1080ti is connected via DisplayPort cable to my 27 inch Gsync 144hz monitor

I now want to connect the same PC to the 4k TV, I understand that my TV only has HDMI connections

SO I bought a 4k HDMI cable, now do I connect the GPU to the TV via HDMI, will I get the full 4k image?

HDMI and 4k is that possible? also how do I set up to screens on my PC?

will that be a duplicate picture or will I have to go into settings all the time?

I use my monitor for gaming, but want proper 4k to watch movies, and use STEAM in big picture mode.

Ive never done this b4, i know a lot of ppl use 4k HDR TVs for their main screen on their PCs

do i need a softrware? how do i activate 4k from the 1080ti to the 4k tv?

Im not gonna even bother connecting the TV to the receiver I have as its not a 4k receiver, only 1080p

lastly if I do game on my 4k tv will that work, will i get a nice 4k image and if i go to the game settings will the game options have the 4k image options

damn so many questions guys...

You don't need special leads for 4k, you existing ones may well work fine. Go into display settings and set the resolution unless it has already autodetected it. You can set the screen to duplicate or extend. Extend gives you a separate additional desktop or desktop space. If your game supports the resolution, you will be able to select and use it. Bear in mind if you set the screen to secondary, you may need to further tweak the graphics settings. It would be easier to make the 4k the primary screen. Also it is "a lot", two words. :)
so make it primary and then when i use the 144hz monitor for gaming make that primary ?

i thought there was special software to do that?

what would secondary be? duplicate or extended?

Extend ideally, will give you more space and yeah, set 4k to primary for maximum game compatibility.
hi mate when i extend and then start a game it still starts on my 27 inch 1440p monitorm not the 4k tv?

what am i doing wrong?

also anyway to set vsync on my 4k tv and gsync on my monitor?

not sure what ive done, ive chosen the extended view, I also installed ultra mon and didnt like it then i installed display fusion, once again i un-installed,

the issue is that when i put on a movie on extended on the 4k TV the picture looks shaky and laggy, doesnt look smooth, maybe because the movies are 1080p copies, ive also played a few games, once again the response is slow, maybe half a second delay, the games dont look good as my 1440p 144hz monitor, infact the picture doesnt look native

it looks like as if ive lowered my res on my 1440p monitor, so ive disconnected the tv now

its also ruins my desktop short cuts, something quite not right, i might just return the tv, sell my 1440p rog monitor and buy a 32 inch gysnc monitor with HDMI so i can connect my ps4 to it.

What are you using to playback your video and what type of video files are they? Is it shaky on the lower resolution screen? I am getting that you are running a lower res screen as a primary monitor and the 4k TV as the extended desktop?

so i use a display port cable to connect the 1080ti to the rog 27inch 144hz screen, now because everyone said hdmi cables dont matter I bought a certified 4k hdmi cable off the bay for a fiver, its a 2 metre cable which is connected to the 4k tv,

does it make a difference if the tv is set to primary or secondary?

i only bought the tv coz i ready many posts people claim that a 4k tv is amazing as a monitor set up, its a samsung 40 inch 4k tv with HDR, i wanted to see how HDR games look compared to normal games

I can remember my brother had his PC set so if he played a movie on his PC the movie would automatically start on his 4ktv, but when i playback a movie its not smooth and it looks horrid, my 1440p 144hz monitor is amazing compared to the 4ktv

what do people use when they connect a 4k tv to a PC and a 2nd monitor? is there a specific programme or is it bog standard windows 10 extended display setting?

display port for monitor and hdmi cable for tv is all you need and windows 10 built in settings is all you need too. I got display fusion but only for wallpapers.

1. make sure nvidia control panel is set to full RGB 4:4:4
2. make sure tv black level is set to high for when connected to the PC via HDMI
3. unless games don't have an option to switch displays, keep the tv set to extended, if games don't have the option to set which display to use then make the tv the primary display
4. for films, install MPC - HC and madvr:

And make sure you copy and paste this:

1080p23, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p50, 1080p60, 2160p23, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p50, 2160p60, 720p23, 720p24, 720p25, 720p50, 720p60

sorry but how do you 1. make sure nvidia control panel is set to full RGB 4:4:4?

i have had a look and cannot locate the rgb 444 setting,

also when i set to extended all my desktop icons move to the tv which is annoying, and when i move the mouse cursor to the tv the lag is real, its a tv thing right?
