Hi, i've been using laptops for the past 4 years instead of a PC and well 2 laptops 4 years both hdd failure so time to go back to a real computer.

Do not need any software for the build as already have Windows 7, just need all the parts including case, would like a SSD in as a priority. I'm mainly going to use it for media creating/editing/watching, would like to play a few pc games if possible, maybe the new BF3 when out. Already have KB+M and a decent monitor so just the tower and its innerds would be needed.

Budget would be 700 pounds.

Thankyou for your suggestions.

If the priority is media editing etc then how about the following:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £155.99
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £139.98
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 460 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £99.98
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £95.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 620W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £62.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £61.99
1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black £35.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
1 x LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £708.49 (includes shipping : £10.50).

Z68 platform would give you Lucid Virtu and SSD caching which will be of benefit with editing and saving power etc.

If you wanted to get more graphics card power for your money, get a P67 board, 4GB of RAM and the GTX 560Ti should be just about in budget.

You'll probably need another storage HDD in there too unless you have external backups etc.

Thanks for the response, I don't think the SSD caching would be benefit to me that much, i'd rather choose specifically which things I would want to load from the SSD, so i'd probably go for the p67 and gtx 560ti.

I do have an external I use for backups but also at work the IT Manager literally has boxes and boxes of HD's lying around, i'll have to see if I can buy a couple for backups and 1 for internal.

Can downgrade the GPU to 6870, although I would think NVidia CUDA may become handy. H67 should support QuickSync for transcoding but better double check on that particular motherboard.

If you go with cheaper GPU, then a Be Quiet L7 530W will do the job, which will save another £20. Then 2500K starts to become an option. AsRock Z68 Pro 3, and a 2500K, but you'll need some cooling (Antec Kuhler Flow).
