hi all
I’m looking to buy these parts this week. But moneys a bit tight at the moment so im asking if anyone can help cut costs here and there but not performance. Its a build for my 3d animation and rendering work. don’t need a power supply or cooling, going to use a water loop I’ve built already. If i go for a cheaper p5q would it make that much difference ect..?

Go for the P5Q Pro, or even just the vanilla P5Q. Buy a vanilla 4870, no need for a pre-overclocked version. Go for a cheaper DVD writer, £35 is silly money when you can get em for £15.

Maybe even drop to a Q6600 and overclock it.

reflux - the DVD write is 2x - they are £17 each that he's listed. I would agree though, don't get a pre overclocked graphics card. The P5Q standard is a good bet for what you've got and use DDR800
Why not look at getting a Q6600 and overclocking it or not - its £100 cheaper for the difference of 400mhz and 4mb cache - almost all Q6600's go to 3.0ghz without any effort apart from pushing the FSB up.

got 2 20" at 1440x900. prefer the q9550 over a q6600 the extra cache makes a massive diference in 3ds max and maya. toned it down to this so far
