Current PC:

  • Gigabyte P55A-UD3
  • Intel i5 760 overclocked to 3.8ghz
  • Gelid Tranquillo CPU cooler
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX760
  • 8gb ddr3 ram
  • Corsair TX 650W PSU
  • Samsung 840 EVO 128gb SSD
  • 1tb HDD
  • CiT Dominator Case

What I have in the basket(s) ready to order:

  • MSI Z170A Gaming Pro - Skylake Core i5 6600K Bundle - £309
  • Zotac GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Omega Edition 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £499
  • Noctua NH-15 CPU COOLER - £69.99
  • HyperX Fury Black Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2133 MHz DDR4 - £72.89
  • Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD - £119.27
  • Fractal Design Define S - £61.55
  • EVGA 650 W G2 GOLD 80+ Modular PC Power Supply Unit - £74.99

= £1206.69

The only things I will re-use from my current/old PC will be the 128 gb ssd and the 1tb hard-drive.

Before I order I want to know if I've got the best for the prices and what not. If everything will fit nicely in the case, if I picked the right cooling, psu, etc etc.

It's quite an expensive purchase for me, so I want to double check everything before I order.

And just as I was just about to post this, I'm having doubts on the case I picked, since it's a mid tower and the CPU cooler I picked is huge.

Thanks!

Yours is a few £ cheaper, but with mine I've got a better cpu cooler, more ram, better ssd and better psu? Unless I'm missing something.

Not *everything* will be ordered from ocuk, due to stock and such. It will most likely just be the cpu, motherboard and gpu from ocuk. The bundle I picked is the same price as your bundle, does it matter which I go for?

The GFX is better, go check reviews its almost guaranteed to have no coil whine as Gigabyte are now using some Titan grade chokes or something, that accounts for £50 extra of the budget being spent compared to the Zotac.

Your case pick didnt have a window?

The Gigabyte board in that bundle does SLI etc, and if you want to dabble in overclocking I have done some settings for it here - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18690667

Items elsewhere I cant comment on as its against forum rules to do so.

Anything wrong with your Corsair TX ? If not then you could reuse it, as it is a pretty good power supply.

If you go for a Noctua cooler then look at the D15S. It has better clearance for the top pcie slot. The Fractal case can take a cooler up to 180mm.

So you think I should grab the Gigabyte bundle over the MSI one?
The Fractal Design S that I picked should have a window, sorry.
I'll re-think the 980ti that I pick, although I liked the 5 year warranty on the Zotac, and it was £499.99.
I want to buy a new PSU since this one is 5+ years old. I'd rather just have everything new.

I would pick the Gigabyte board for the support alone, the rep is always active on the forum and I have seen them/him bend over backwards to help people and even go as far as making custom BIOS for specific needs.

One last question:

If I was to go for the Xtreme gaming 980ti... basically I have 2 monitors that both use DVI I believe? I have a 144hz and a 60hz, but the 60hz has an adapter from vga to dvi I believe. I would need vga to displayport adapter for my other monitor, correct?

Shouldnt be using VGA in 2016 :p

The motherboard (well the gigabyte one atleast) has a VGA output, so you can run it from their and use the 144Hz from the card.

It is possible to set it up like that.

Well, I'm about to order from OCUK in a sec, as well as the rainforest place, uh.. shall I grab a cable for my 2nd monitor to plug into the gpu?

Not sure on which cable you need, I dont know if it has to be an "active" DP to VGA adapter or wahtever.

Is the 144Hz monitor not got DP input? look at the actual monitor connections.

My monitors are:

Benq-gl2450 and IIYAMA ProLite GB2488HSU-B1

I think I could just buy a cable for my other monitor, instead of using the vga port on the motherboard.
