Ok I want to get either a E6850 or a Q6600... My current spec is in my sig... I'm using a Ultra 120 Extreme to cool my chip...

It will mainly be used to do encode video into mpeg2 and also gaming...

So what do you guys think?

Quad if it's mainly for encoding :)

Craig.

Well it's not mainly for encoding... maybe once or twice a week (The stuff I encode only takes 20mins using my E6600... so would the quad do this in 10minutes?)

I guess it'd do it in around 10 mins, yep.

Q6600 only come in at around £170 recently (since yesterday I think) so no real harm in going for one ;)

If the app actually could use the 4 cores, if not raw MHZ will shorten the time, hell I dont know if your current app uses even 2 cores lol.

LOL I suppose your right... quad core seems to be the best choice... I'll have a think... I may even hold out for a few more weeks before making a purchase :)
