Ok so i got a nokia n97 on orange and yes i just got out of my contract which has left me with a lot of options.

Im thinking keep the phone and get a 20 pounds simplicity contract through o2 until a better phone comes out

or

Ebay for the phone and use the money from it to go towards an iphone 3gs

I do like my n97 havent had any problems with it so far. Im just wondering if the 3gs is that good because i dont like the idea of getting it and then next year a new iphone appears thats able to copy and paste at twice the speed or something epic like that :P

Are any new phones on the way. Ive seen the palm pre and ive seen that linux mobiles are on the way soon etc

anyhoo halp and opinions please i dare say a lot of ex orange customers are on the same boat

I got a Nokia 5800 a few weeks ago which is fantastic, but there are so many nice new phones on the market now such as the HTC hero, Toshiba with 4.1" screen, etc.

Oh, and the Gadget show done a three way shoot out with the palm pre, Ipohone 3Gs and a Nokia in last weeks episode. The iphone came out tops followed by the Palm.

They always will to non techy people, especially when they dont take into account silly things like how expensive the contracts are.

The iPhone is, and always will be, a fashion statement that lacks the features of other smart phones. Admitedly, when they do finally implement things (like copy and paste), they do it very well, but for anyone remotely technical its going to leave you wanting.

Want to install an application sir? best make sure its ok with apple first...

I like the gadget show but find they are apple fanboys, especially jason. there was 1 episode where the iphone just lost out in a comparison but that was barely and only 1 episode, all other times where they have had an apple product(ipod, iphone, mac book etc) it comes out on top.

I'm one of those ex orange contract customers(will be once I get the payg sim throught the post) that are in the same boat, I'm going to be keeping an eye on what is being released over the coming months before deciding what to get.

I have the touch hd so that'll keep me going, will just need to make sure I only use wifi as using 3g/hdspa(or what ever its called) will eat up the creadit like there's no tomorrow(£4/mb on payg). I had the 500mb for £5/month but never really made too much use of it over the last several months, only really started using it over the last couple of months to try and make the £5/month worth while but even then the most I used was like 40-50mb(over the months it seem to use ~9mb according to the bill, most of which seems to be due to rss hub updating).

Whats so special about the htc magic people rave about them but the interface is just curtains on top of windows mobile is it not.

you need to do a bit more googling on htc magic and android ;)
next you'll be saying the same thing about the hero and the dreanm(aka the t-moble g1) :)

The iphone tarrifs are a complete con, stick with what you've got if it does what you like

for now.... o2's exclusivity deal is coming to an end in september, at which point, the 8gb iphone should be available through t-mob and orange so i'm told.... :)
