So guys.....

September 26th for both of these, not sure which one to go to. What's the O2 academy like?

The lineup looks possibly better at the Gatecrasher bash, but I Syndicate is a pretty good venue. but I've only heard of the first two.

I'm mainly into trance.

Gatecrashers 16th Birthday at O2 Academy Sheffield

Above & Beyond
Judge Jules
Matt Hardwick
Gareth Emery
Riley & Durrant

Godskitchen at Syndicate

JOHN O'CALLAGHAN
RICHARD DURAND
MENNO DE JONG
MARK ETESON

I've not heard of most of them either, i'd just google the names and see what thier tracks and mixes sound like...

Failing that, go to bangface! ;P

Well, if I had to go to one, I think it would be the gatecrasher one. I've heard a mix by above and beyond and it was pretty nice if a little mellow for a club, but it's up to you!

That gatecrasher lineup is immense:

Above & Beyond - These guys own anjunabeats record label (http://www.anjunabeats.com/) and their music is top notch, seriously, everything they touch is good. Some examples I have:
Above & Beyond - Can't Sleep (Signum Mix)
Above & Beyond - No One on Earth (Gabriel & Dresden Mix)
Chakra - Home (Above & Beyond Mix)
Madonna - What It Feels Like For A Girl (Above & Beyond 12" Club Mix)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Above & Beyond Dynaglide Mix)
I would classify them as vocal, uplifting, hard trance

Judge Jules - Don't have many tunes of his but he's well known and not to be sniffed at - hard trance.
Brainbug - Nightmare (Judge Jules Mix)

Matt Hardwick - Same comments as Judge Jules.
Matt Hardwick - I Am DJ (Ben Gold Mix)

Gareth Emery - Alias of GTR and well known for the tune 'Mistral'. Solid trance producer/DJ.

Riley & Durrant - Haven't heard much of this duo, only have this as an example.
Armin van Buuren - Burned With Desire (Riley & Durrant Mix)

I've been out of the trance scene for some years now so my examples may be outdated but they still cook. I would definately suggest the Gatecrasher event though even for Above & Beyond alone.

Gatecrasher easily. Syndicate will be full of the usual Blackpool idiots, plus the line up is MILES better.

Above & Beyond are in my opinion the best thing around in trance so would go for them alone.
Judge Jules is dogturd, don't know why he get's bookings at all because hes a complete fugasi.
Hardwick is bob on, quality DJ and producer, as is Emery, both knocking out some good stuff lately, especially Emery with the launch of his label Garuda.

The GC 16 event does look really good and I would maybe consider going, just a bit of a trek for me from Edinburgh. Mind you I have done it before, possibly an OCUK meet opportunity :)

Definitely Gods in terms of music.

Above and Beyond play nothing but wishy washy trance with too many cheesey vocals and too many generic floaty breakdowns. Saw them at MOS earlier this year and they were mediocre at best. Gareth Emery however would be worth seeing purely to hear his productions, his mixing leaves a little to be desired! Judge Jules is hit and miss, some days he rocks the place other days he just fudges an uninteresting mix of tracks with no thought for flow or direction.

JOC despite his horribly commercial album he is a fantastic producer and a brilliant DJ, he'll start energetic and go upwards from there, definitely the best DJ from the entire list you've posted. Richard Durrand i saw at MOS earlier this year as well and was really quite impressed. He shows a little more innovation behind the decks than your usual 1 track after the other and really mixes up a whole bag of styles and genres.

In terms of venue, you'll probably do better going for the Gatecrasher event. The O2 is a bit of a **** hole but the people there will be friendlier and more music orientated than Syndicate and lets be honest that's more important than nice crisp and clean sofas.
