Got £5000-6000k to spend on a car and gona keep another £2k lying about for spares and repairs? Now I've had my eyes set on a BMW 330/325ci for a while, however growing up i've always loved Impreza's from watching the rally's so i've also been eyeing up WRX (Blobeye's). I want to get something fun before petrol prices become too overpriced, keep the car for around 3 years preferably.

Going to get some stick surely? I know they are different, however been trying to weigh up the pro's and con's from both cars. I'd appreciate some opinions from people who have owned these or similar cars and know which will likely be the more cost efficient to run/maintain with less hassle? I'd unlikely modify the cars, perhaps a remap for the scoob would be all.

How's the costs compare? I'm thinking Bimmers going to be better to run/maintain as there's no turbo replacement, timing chain over belt, RWD vs AWD. From what i gather the scoobs less MPG efficient and the engine bays not the easiest to get access to certain parts?. Scoob just tempts me.... :D:rolleyes: But then the interior and build quality of the bimmer would be nice :o. I dont do huge mileage either so most journeys are 10-30 miles, would like to see around 22-25 mpg average for town/A road driving if poss?

Please no suggestions for M3 or STi, looked at loads of motors and it comes down to these two for my pricepoint and what i want to spend. Just looking for some friendly advice, Cheers!

Buy the Impreza.

Why?

Once you've had a BMW you'll turn all snobbish at the interior quality etc of something like an Impreza. You won't want a Subaru after you've had a 330Ci. Which is a real shame because crap interior aside the Impreza's are great cars.

Plus as petrol prices go mad Imprezas etc will become a thing of the past. Whereas BMW will always sell Coupes.

Imprezas are about as reliable as it gets for a performance car so they dont break very often unless you buy a badly modded/unserviced one and then it probably will break, it will also be expensive to fix probably. They dont cost that much to service, certainly no more than a BMW but they are thirsty and the fuel consumption isnt good if you drive it properly, however you can easily achieve 22-25mpg but what is the point? it would be silly to buy one and drive it like an old man.
If you buy one then get one with PPP fitted or you will probably wish you had bought an STI. Make sure it has full service history of course, iirc the hawkeye are £400 tax as opposed to the bolbeye that are aound £250 tax per year.
