I've been wanting to upgrade my ageing x58 system for a while I've got my self in a right pickle deciding exactly what to so. My system is;
I7 950 @ 3.7 (can do 4.0).
5870 vapor-x
Ga-x58a-udr3 r.2
Corsair tx650
Ssd/hdd
Originally I wanted to upgrade to a 280x but the day I was going to buy it I second guessed myself into waiting for the 290, Then waiting for the custom coolers. Now we've got mining related price hikes. However I'm 90% sure I'll go for the 290p but I'm just a bit worried about:
1. Compatibility issues. I've noticed that 290s seem to be a bit picky with some motherboards. Does anyone have any experience with the 290 and the above listed motherboard.
2. Bottle necking. Will a 290p be bottlenecks by a i7950 in demanding situations (bf4 and etc).
3. 290p (non reference) vs 780. The prices are in similar ranges currently, i guess the 290s will go down a but yer pretty much the same prices. the 290 vs 780. Performance difference between them seems negligible and in all honesty if it wasn't the promise of mantle I'd get a 780 I think. What do you guys think?
Lastly if also been thinking about just buying a 4770k as well, but really I'm not sure if it's totally worth it, again though I nearly pulled the trigger but a last minuet stay of execution for the 950 happened! Do you think it's worth doing a total system upgrade now (psu, mobo, CPU and gpu)? Baring in mind I like to keep my systems for 3-5 years or until I can't keep up in games. Currently I'm thinking to wait for haswell-E since that seems like it will be a proper chunky upgrade from the i7 950! Any thoughts or comments?
It's not really about the money but I don't want to be "wasting" money either and just generally I am totally undecided with what to so!
TLDR;
290 vs 780.
Upgrading to 4770k or wait for haswell-e
Any input, thoughts or comments would be great
