System specs.

Aienware 7500

EVGA 680i SLI
1gb Patriot pc6400 extreme plus 2gb OCZ xtreme.
E4500 2.2ghz C2d
Arctic freezer pro
Arctic twin turbo'd 9800GT SLI
1000w Hipro PSU

I think that covers it all.

Can anyone reccomend how to get started? bear in mind I'm a complete newb and this stuff and have only ever OCed on a Athy 2000+xp and that was to 2400 speeds using the multiplier.

I'd like to get to around the 2.8ghz mark, I'm not even that interested in overclocking the ram and don't need to as I can seperate the buses.

Please help :D

I did, but all it did was serve to confuse me lmao.

Oddly enough I seemed to have got it to do all the things I have read about over the net.

My board has a funny set up. The multi is set to 11x and I dont think I can change it. I don't know if it can be changed downward as I haven't tried (but some say it can..) The bus, however, seems a bit odd.

The first OC I tried was 3.2ghz. I have an arctic freezer on my CPU and a Arctic Twin turbo on my VGA. I also have the heatpipe and fan north/south bridge set up on the mobo.. It wouldn't boot. Kept resetting. I got it to what I thought was stable @ 2.8ghz easily but IE in Vista Home Premium kept becoming unstable. I downclocked it back to the stock 2.2 and IE was still the same so I installed Ultimate. On a stock clock that worked well.. So, figuring I had damaged my home premium I reinstalled it.

As soon as I installed the mobo drivers it started doing the same thing. Lockups and all sorts. I would have liked to have tried SP1 but there's no way the system (explorer was doing the same also) would have remained stable long enough so I pulled the plug and installed XPMCE2005.

Glad I did. OS is stable, fully set up (inc all the alienware gumph) and once I've imaged it I'll be ready for another round of Ocing :)

have you got the most up to date bios available for your m/b.... remember not all boards can be oc... if your goal was 2.8 why did you jump to 3.2?upping the frequency might need more volts! remember the key is to be patient and up it at one step at a time!
