despite having been a member here for over 7 years i've never had any overclocked computer equipment.
Im "convinced" that overclocking is dangerous lol !
Despite my belief i would except a shorter life pc that would easily last 3 years <------- is this fair of me to expect ?

also if i have to reinstall the operating system 12months down the line does the overclock stay ? (its in the bios right ?)

put my overclocking fears of mass destruction away for me please lol

Well if the overclocking is done properly (OCUK do :D) then you shouldn't have any problems. If you do they can fix.
a lot on here have had overclocked pc's for years but lets face it will you really have the same pc in 3 years. I doubt it once your sucked in by OCUK and overclocking pc's :p
The overclock will stay yes :)

Firstly Overclockers pcs will be built with better quality components that are way more reliable for example the Dell pcs have psus in them that are very unstable and would cause issues if you decided to upgrade the gfx card in future.(plus the cable management is very bad in Dell pcs whereas Overclockers are very good, you will not have loose wires for example hanging near the motherboard)

As for Overclocking decreasing lifespan, well yes it does but if the temps/voltages are within limits it will not be to a degree that causes you to not want it since cpus would only lose probably a year or so lifespan which last like 10 years anyway.

You can only lose your bios settings if you update the BIOS or delete the profile.

That pc is nice but you should go for a Sandybridge system.:)

The overclock settings is stored in the BIOS, it will actually be saved as a profile too, so if you reset the BIOS, you only have to reload the profile, doing a BIOS update will wipe these settings completely.

And it will last longer than 3 years im sure.

Yep overclocked processors will last longer than three years and possibly up to 12 and you most definitely won't have that comp in 12 years.
Oh yeah what do you guys think of my underclock that presumably was from the factory.
I hate my sony vaio.

If you're referring to the processor in your sig. "T6400 @ 1.19GHz" then it's not underclocked.

1.19GHz is the idle speed with Speedstep enabled.

If you stress the CPU you should see it go up to full speed.

Just bought a system from OcUK and can't fault it.
Would never go back to Dell,my previous system.

"Come on in,the waters lovely"

Thats not a very fair statement. I have no issues with any of my Dells and if anything, the Dell Precision range is very well built with long warranties, given they are designed for CAD/CAM or trading floors where long term reliability is the overriding factor - I've upgraded all my Dells with aftermarket gfx cards and I've not had any issues (to be fair, my PCs are Precisions). The cable management isn't half bad either. If anything, the wattage on Dell PSUs is understated.

Also, at the end of the day, Dell use the same CPUs/HDDs/components as everyone else, although their m/b's and PSUs are custom made (BTX....)

People recommending Sandybridge without at least mentioning the possible longer term board issues for someone who clearly mentions longevity.

Yes there is some scaremongering going on, but some people are going way too far with sticking their head in the sand that there wont be an issue longer term.

Ive never bought a full PC from overclockers but I have bought a pre OCd bundle and it was excellent. I had a minor issue with was resolved very very quickly and the PC is blazingly fast.
