I'm looking for a portable but powerful laptop and when I say powerful I mean a machine that feels snappy at basic tasks like, booting up, playing music, word processing and browsing the internet as I'll only be using it for work and watching the occasional movie.

The laptop I am considering is the Lenovo X300. It's very portable and apparently quick because of its SSD. However I'm disappointed by the lack of DVI or HDMI output and maybe the monitor isn't as good as say the Sony LED displays. I can't find another laptop that offers the same degree of power, features and portability though so that's why I'm posting here to ask if anyone knows of a machine that weighs less than 2.7kg which is as powerful, has a dvi or hdmi port and has a decent screen?

Also does anyone think it's worth waiting for the next batch of larger capacity SSDs i.e., when will laptops with these SSDs start to appear?

I think you'll struggle to beat the Lenovo although it's far from cheap, if you could put up with a heavier laptop you'd get a much better spec elsewhere.

Dell XPS M1330:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate (32Bit) - English
1 Year Base Warranty
Tuxedo Black & 0.3 mega pixel Camera for White-LED Display
13.3" UltraSharp™ WXGA (1280x800) White-LED Display (300 nits) with TrueLife™
Biometric Fingerprint Reader
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
64GB Solid State Drive Ultra Performance
128MB nVidia® GeForce® 8400M GS
Fixed 8x DVD+/-RW Slim Slot Load Drive, including SW
Primary 9-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (85 WHr)

£1500 delivered.

It could end up heavier though, starts at 1.8Kb before you start adding on too many extras, no idea what the final weight is once the SSD replaces the standard HDD but I can't see it being over 2.7Kb. You could lower the cost by downgrading the spec - that's pretty much as powerful as you can get it! :)
