Ok I know a lot of people hate this spec me a car thread but I'm completely lost and need some help. In away I'm hoping that someone says have you looked at these and I'm taken in a different direction.

Current issues I have is I don't know if I should spend more on a nearly new or brand new car or say no that's silly Ill get something few years older but with more spec/car for the money.

I have been looking at Fiesta ST the new version given that it seems a nice little car that returns ok MPG vs power. MPG isn't the most important thing I'm looking for something ill enjoy driving. Given my 11 year old Mondeo is starting to feel its age I thought maybe trade her in and see what's about.

So I've been spending time looking though auto trader and nothing is jumping out at me. I guess I'm being too pickie I think my fault just I feel if I going to spend a lot of money ill be wanting this car for a while.

I've been looking at a mix of BMW, Fords, Honda basically everything and just sitting and saying a lot of cars are just meh nothing to special.

My basic requires are something that is enjoyable to drive, nice amount of power, reliable and if it gives decent MPG that's a bonus but I car share so can get away for the moment with Petrol instead of Diesels. Although that being said some of the 170-200+ bhp 1 series diesels look nice but I know next to nothing about BMW's always really been a ford man for my sins.

So apologies for what might be vague thread but if you have a suggestion at something that might be worth looking at please help me. :(:p

Decent enough starting information, but could do with a few more things:
What is your budget?
Are ongoing running costs (other than fuel) going to be an issue e.g. Insurance, Servicing costs on premium brands, VED if in one of the highest bands?
How is it going to be used e.g. Annual mileage, but also things like how many seats?

Fiesta st. Go on drive the deal you will be surprised how cheap you can get a new one for. Its a very fun car to drive without having to do stupid speeds and mpg is reasonable.

15K Would really be the most I would like to spend. I know this wouldn't get me brand new ST but I can live with a used nearly new.

Insurance isn't an issue I'm 31 now so never had such cheap insurance haha. Same for VED I'm not to worried here.

Reason ive spoken about MPG is that I noticed the "book" Fiesta ST is basically the MPG I'm getting out of my Mondeo diesel. So looked good for power vs MPG and a lot of reviews speak highly of the Fiesta ST. Although I'm waiting for someone to say dude look at these for x amount cheaper etc.

Annual Mileage will be max of 15k if I wasn't car sharing 60 mile round trip each day. I would think my mileage would be less then 10k a year.

I should also say I have 3 children but we have a second mummies wagon that does the shopping and family trips. So Small car isn't an issue for the one off trips.

£15k will get you in a brand new ST2 through Drive the Deal.

Got my St 3 for £16,800 last December don't know how much St 2,s go for. Probably best to find a low mileage ex demo and haggle a good deal.

£15k would also get you a lot of other different cars - so I would advise coming up with a shortlist and actually test driving some of them first:

A few random suggestions below:

Slightly older but again depends what you really want:

ST all day long. Very quick, looks ace, great standard kit and you can tune them if you wish. Lovely motor and much better than the competition. It's won that many awards for a reason - just google the top gear review
