I am in the process of replacing one of my work PC's (the oldest one I have).

Up to now it's just been used as a basic office machine but now I have a new employee starting and I'm wondering whether it's worth upgrading the PC or buying a Mac (as the rest of the office will be converting to Macs shortly).

The machine will be used for designing graphics (for websites) and basic web development.

It's currently a Celeron D 2.8GHz and I'm considering upgrading it to some sort of Skt775 CPU as I have a spare motherboard kicking around. What CPU would you recommend?

If I keep it and don't replace it with a Mac, I will be sticking Windows 7 on it.

Depends on what mobo is it though ... g31 / p35 / x38 / p43 / p45 / x48 ? :)

the e6600 surely would be huge improvement over the celeron.
if your mobo is capable of the 45nm cpu check the Q8xxx series and the Q9xxx cheap cpus. The q8xxx's aren't bad at all despite their low cache m8.
