Help me find a suitable monitor

Recommend the B2430H myself - great monitor for the money considering the build quality and image quality. We elected the 22 inch version (another excellent buy) as monitor of the month for September. OcUK also have a great deal on the Iiyama E2472HD at the moment. If you're looking for an LED-backlit screen it's supposed to be one of the better ones. sub-£200 The BenQ is pretty decent but it isn't worth as much as it's been creeping up to recently and the competition just outclasses it at the moment.

The contrast ratio on the IIyama is better than the B2430H Samsung, is this going to increase image quality or will I not notice it at all?

The simple answer is no. The Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) is better, simply because the screen is LED backlit and therefore has more precise control over brightness. All this means is that you can enable the DCR mode and the backlight intensity will keep on shifting depending on the level of dark vs. light colours on the screen. This is distracting at best and infuriating at worst and is best left off. Because LCD matrices are basically colour filters that let light through (or block it off) you can't achieve 'perfect black' without shutting off light to other parts of the screen where the image is supposed to be lighter. Unless you are considering currently very expensive and very rare area-specific illumination backlighting technologies or 'per pixel' self-illumination (i.e. plasmas, OLEDs) then contrast in 'real terms' is more dependent on the overall quality of the panel and, often, the underlying panel technology (IPS, TN, PVA etc.). At your budget I wouldn't let this concern you though :)

Got the Samsung a few days ago myself, it is a stunning monitor you have definatly made a solid decision. I am amazed at how little backlight bleed there is compared to my Samsung 226bw.
