I'm a returnee to console gaming. I used to have a PS1 and from 1999 to 2008 used to play games on PC. Used to love FarCry. Got bored of games and went from desktop to laptop.

On a whim I recently bought a 360 and bought Darksiders, Hawx, and FarCry 2.

Darksiders is good because it plays like Soul Reaver did on on the PS1. HAWX plays like Ace Combat 2 on the PS1. FarCry 2, however plays nothing like the original did on the PC, due entirely to lack of mouse and keys on the console. Darksiders and HAWX, however, play like a dream with the 360 pad.

So, until a decent mouse/key interface comes along I'm stuck with 3rd person games. What I'm really after is games with fantastic graphics and realistic stories, (No GTA/Saints Row "Gangstas" running random things over thank you very much)

Think MAX PAYNE. I've seen some preview pics of "Alan Wake" and that seems to be what I'm looking for, but are there any older or current third person games you could recommend?

I'm up for a bit of Tomb Raider-ish type gameplay also.

Just don't want FPS.

Thanx

Mass Effect 1 & 2
Assassin's Creed 2
Batman Arkham Asylum

FarCry 2, however plays nothing like the original did on the PC, due entirely to lack of mouse and keys on the console.

Far Cry 2 was a terrible game, even on the PC. Nothing like the original. :(
I wouldn't let this game put you off buying FPS games for the xbox.

Gears of War
Gears of War 2

Dead Space

Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia is garbage compared to the Sands trilogy. New game due soon though. I'd recommend Batman and the newer Tomb Raider games if you've somehow managed to avoid them thus far.

I had the same attitude to the lack of M+K for FPS.. but try it out... you get used to it and kinda adapt the way you play.

Seriously you'll be missing out on some cracking games...

Thanks bud.

I'm not playing any fps until the xim3 comes out. Mouse and keys YAY!!!
Why not just play games on the PC if you really can't face playing fps with a controller?
I'm new to the xbox and was just like you but you do get used to the controller with fps games pretty quickly - I did anyway, I read someone here saying to get call of duty 2 (not mw2, the original cod 2) and try it on veteran - you'll soon get the hang of it.
Well I didn't play on veteran due to being a pussy but it did help me get the hang of the 360 controller and now I'm not scared of buying fps for the console anymore- I have mw2 and left for dead 2 and love them, although I'm immersed in Fable 2 right now - there's one for your list!

i was stubborn over m+kb for years but im happy with the 360 pad now, its easy enough to get used to, means you get to play a more diverse selection of games too..

When coming to consoles you'll have a month breaking in period of 'spack-thumbs', then all of a sudden it'll click and you'll be FPS'ing no problem.

As for not liking Prince of Persia, each to their own, I loved the art style and the game as a whole, and was very disappointed they didn't carry on with it in the next game (as the ending was left wide open for a sequel).

Another vote for Batman, fantastic game.

I'd agree with Condemned too, while it's first person it's not twitchy aimy shooting so works well on console.

A few spring to mind that im currently playing and have enjoyed in the past;

Bayonetta
Splinter Cell Conviction
Dragon Age
Resident Evil 5
Brutal Legend

Most of which you can get pretty cheap at the moment.

Plus, if you like your racers, Forza 3 is awesome.

Thanks guys, just been into town and got Dead Space and Silent Hill. Nearly got Batman but I've got enough for the moment so thanks again.

Your missing out by not getting batman.

Its GOTY for many, many people last year, including myself (although tied with uncharted 2 but thats ps3 only im afraid)
