I think...

It is a romcom.
It is about a bf/gf who have not long been together and they end up going back to their small American "Hometown". It is either both of their hometown or just the guys.

I think the guys father is in a care home and they do not get on but the women ultimately ends up being peacemaker.

I know it is vague as anything, but you never know, it is the internet after all

I could have sworn I saw the start of something similar, with who I thought was De Niro as the decrepit dad, but his filmography doesn't check out.

We only watched the first 20 mins or so as it was crap

Did she eventually find the da a retirement home that he could move to that had a small allotment for people to keep doing gardening and stuff?
I recall that from some film or TV series, but can't tell you which.
I thought it might have been de niro also actually.
