I just can't find the right case I need/like.

I need a case along the lines of the Lian Li X500. Something taller (thin) rather than deep. At the moment my current case sticks out past my desk and makes walking past the foot of my bed a tight squeeze.

So, the Lian Li X500 is what I kind of like but it's too much money, but I need something that has good cooling, is black, and not too deep.

The case can't be too small though, which is the problem. I have x3 Hdd, x2 SATA drives and a floppy drive. I have a hot GPU (and quite long) so I don't want to be cramming stuff into the case and affecting air-flow.

Please help! I'm looking but just can't see anything ideal. Depth wise I'm looking at 500mm max.

Thanks!

Sorry, I'd say anything up to like £150-ish.

Just really show me what people think are good, and we can go from there. There are some nice midi size Lian-Li cases but the cooling looks pants. Like no side fans, or 120mm fans blocked by a door at the front..... hmmm. :(

Antec 1200 I've just seen may be ok.... seems to be 510mm deep. Good cooling as well. Any thoughts on this case? Or is there nicer to be had?

Well i would reccommend a Antec P182.... Because i have one .. but they are good looking cases are quite. Also replace the stock fans which are ok but not the best and the cooling is great to.

Not bad that case, will try and read up on it later. Shame it's not black inside like the 1200 is. But seems to be laid out quite well.

EDIT: Just seen they do an "SE" variant. Which is black inside, and mirror finish on the outside. Quite tasty!

If you want really "shallow depth" case with still lot of bays and space for long graphic cards I'm afraid there aren't any other options than Lian Li X500 and X2000...
Simply because moving device bays vertically to other place is only option for retaining space for long cards when depth is chopped down.

For example Silverstone FT01 allows removing upper HDD cage (while retaining lower three disk cage) for making space for long graphic cards but depth is still around 50cm and insides will still be cramped with long graphic card.
Same for Antec P18x whose depth is also about 50cm.

Then there's Thermaltake Mozart TX but what it saves in depth it more than spends in width.

Side fans are overhyped, they can only spot cool and they make a real mess with overall case airflow.

Also idea of door is to block direct noise escape path so holes/slots for airflow are in sides of door.

How about the silverstone ft01?

Plenty of room for my gtx 280 + 7 hard drives and good cooling.

Could be on to a winner here... why I haven't seen that before....?!

Sleek, nice looks. 180mm fans and 120mm fan. Tempting.

Do you have any photo's of your case?

Thanks.

Was looking for a short depth 400mm (shallow just sound wrong) case myself a while back. Had a silverstone CW-01 on it's side before.

Toyed with modify the LL xbox case - XB-01B but to much work.
Liked the Zalman TNN 300 but its mATX and the TNN500 is ugly
Thermaltake Mozart TX - but as EsaT said it's wide.
wished I'd seen the X500 then... would have still been way over budget and not ideal what what I needed...

Ended up with the cheap GMC R2-toast. Not a patch on the silverstone, but then it's under a quater of the price but perfect for my fanless setup.

Old shot below - not a million miles away from posting my log
