Hi guys i've decided on getting the following items:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

What i need answering:

CPU: E6300 or E6400? (worth extra cash?)
GFX: Ati x1900/1950 or nvidia 7900/7950?
Case: Anyone have any recommendations for the gear im using?
CPU Cooler: A good one for the E6300/6400?
HD: n/a
Monitor: n/a
Keyboard: n/a

Anything else i might have forgotten?

Thanks, Sainte

i would go for the 6300 and overlclock it, use a artic freezer 7 for that cpu and then get a lian li pc7 and a 1900xt.

all should come to about £380

Unless you particularly want that motherboard I'd change it for a 965 based motherboard such as the Gigabyte DS3/DS4 as they tend to be a lot better for overclocking the 6300/6400 due to their ability to reach higher FSB speeds.

I'd get the 6300 if you are going to be overclocking as the 6400 doesn't automatically overclock any further.

An X1900XT or X1950XT is probably as good as you'll get for the money.

Case wise is pretty much personal preference, the Lian-Li PC7+ is a nice and reasonably priced case though.

CPU cooler, Arctic Freezer 7 at the lower end of the budget and a Tuniq Tower nearer the high end. :)

interesting thanks for posts.. so would anyone else recommend the DS3/4 over the Asus deluxe? (btw what's the difference between the DS3 and 4?)

Sainte

i would also go with a ds3/4 over the asus.

Theres a few little differences. The ds4 has heat pipe cooling and firewire and a few other little extras. If you can afford it i would go for the ds4 over the ds3.

Everyone elses advice is spot on though.

DS4 has dual 16x PCI-E slots for potential Crossfire and it also has firewire and a couple of other features built in but both motherboards should be about the same level for overclocking ability. :)

Ahh right. Thanks for some awesome posts guys, really helpful! ill just spec up what has been recommended and change the asus for ds4 and see what price it comes to.

Edit: do OCUK do radeon 1900 XTX? maybe i'm just missing it?

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus, my P965 mobo I went for was the

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP

What do u think?
Its a good spec but I dont like it! :D

Some like Big Macs, others like Double Whoppers, but I would 'personally' choose a different mobo and mem. It's most important what you think though, everyone will have their opinion!

dont bother spending an extre £60 on the xtx, i would just go for the xt. the xt easily hits xtx speeds and more.

my xt is at 690/780, so pretty good!
