Soooo I have a rather annoying issue with my phone which started a few weeks ago.

<insert wavy flashback effect here>

I'd got my phone a bit dirty, so I wiped it with a damp cloth... which turned out to be perhaps a bit damper than I realised, as there was a bit of water that managed to get under the battery cover! Needless to say, later that day, i couldn't get the phone to boot. It would display the empty battery icon, then turn off.

I assumed the battery had just died, so I went out and bought a new one, sure enough, once i put the new battery in, it powered up.... but wouldn't get any further than that.

Cut a long story short, it turns out the phone won't charge "any" battery, once the power is 100% flat (I fixed the non-booting issue by flashing another kernel).

Back to the present day: I stupidly left my phone at home and the battery ran flat. I took my phone to a T-Mobile store and they kindly recharged my battery, however, i've flashed another Kernel and it hasn't made any difference this time.

I've flashed two different versions of the Siyah Kernel and it still won't boot :(

All I can do on my phone at the moment, is enter Download mode, and flash stuff via Odin.

I REALLY don't want to lose my texts, so can anyone think of another way to get my phone booting, or at least a way of getting my txts/other data off, before I flash another ROM? I'm thinking of flashing a kernel with CWM and doing something via that... but i'm not sure if that will work?

A prize to the person who offers the working solution :P

Cheers! :D

FYI I'm currently running on Resurrection Remix v1.8.1 with Siyah 3.3.3d

It sounds to me that you have a hardware problem so flashing kernels is asking for trouble IMHO.

I had a soft bricked phone after messing about, flashing a standard ROM via Odin did the job.

Not sure that'll help but good luck.

If you can boot into CWM, you can mount the partitions that hold the SMS/MMS data. It's probably /data/user/0/com.android.mms/, but just grab the whole /data dir, flash a stock ROM via Odin, then work on pushing the SMS data back afterwards once you know your phone works :)

Saying that, if the battery isn't charging, it's more likely a HW fault rather than a kernel fault.

The current batteries have a min voltage which they must not go below or the cells in the battery will be permanently damaged. I'm guessing you broke some part of the charge circuit ( in simple form, an chip that controls power regulation and charging) related to that :( Assuming you nailed battery one and two you could use someone elses battery for 10 mins, install SMSBackup and save it to a memory card before giving the battery back but don't use the battery for too long, no one knows how much damage your broken power circuit will do :(

Thanks for the replies guys.

Not tooooo fussed if I have indeed busted the charge circuit, i mean, it does still charge the battery okay (just as long as I don't allow it to drop to 0%).

With regards to booting in to CWM, Do you think it's okay to flash the standard CWM tar, regardless of the ROM that i'm using?

So I decided to flash the lastest Siyah kernel last night and huzzah, my phone finally booted... However once it got to the SIM lock screen, the touch screen wouldn't work. I also managed to get into CWM finally, however it couldn't run a backup because it couldn't mount the backup folder (or something) then shortly after it froze.

After a reboot, I'm back where I started, stuck at ther Samsung bootsceen. I reflashed the kernel, and also tried some of the older ones, but nothing.

I have no idea what's going on, but it's starting to annoy me now lol.

I think I'm going to try a stock kernel next, but I'm not sure which one I can install. I'm assuming it depends what ROM I'm running (resurrection remix 1.8.1).

Is there anything else I could try flashing via Odin, to fix this? (Not a full ROM as there's data I need to backup!)

Appreciate the help, as ever!

Thanks

could have attached a keyboard otg to allow movement, and backup of sms.

Would require a cable, and phone to support it with its current rom/kernel.
