Hiya....

OK, so recently this little annoyance has started occurring.

When I boot up my pc from cold, vista doesn't detect the on-board LAN on my motherboard.

I have to then restart the comp from vista's start menu, and then the second time it boots up, the network adapter gets detected and everything works fine.

Why is this happening?

I've even looked in device manager and my network adapter is nowhere to be found; However, on the second boot, everything is fine and its shown under "Network adapters".

I have an Asus p5k-e and I'm using vista 64 SP1.

...and this is the device name in device manager: "Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller"

Thanks for any help :)

I have the P5K-E WIFI and it has the exact same NIC. I've not had the same problems your having but windows vista does have an updated driver for it that fixed a problem which would DC me all the time.

Try resetting your bios to setup defaults. Sometimes these on-board devices store configuration in nvram that goes haywire.
Usually happens to nvidia boards but you never know. Worth a try if this is a new issue.
