Using same rig in sig but for different CPU,

Its currently at 2785Mhz ! but just isnt stable at 2800Mhz.. :(

Its at max volts for this mobo, 1.5V ! 280X10 (333) 3xHTT..Latest bios... Any advise getting a it stable at 2.8? Something maybe I havent tried? 52C load before failing prime95 after about 35min :(

Hacked Bios with 1.5v+ volts maybe?? (Wishful thinking) :p

The A8N can only supply 1.5v? I find that suprising as my Epox goes to something silly like 1.7v.

Probably a bios update or a vmod, obviously try the bios first

Its quite annoying, a slight voltage increase would probably do it... I'm on the latest bios atm soo.. dunno .. :(

I so should have got a DFI but to late now. :( :(

Yep

Usually you can only select up to 1.5 or 1.55V with the CPU Voltage option but there's something like VID which allows you to overvolt slightly

Having said that though, I've just been reading the manual for the board and under "CPU Voltage" in "JumperFree Configuration" you can set it up to 1.65V

Yeah In the manual it shows upto 1.65 but I only have the option upto 1.5V.

Just found this, hope it helps.

There is a control similar to the vid special on the DFIs which should let you have up to 1.95v.
Just noticed youve got the Asus premium board so it might not help!

EDIT/ FORGET THE ABOVE I TYPED had a heavy night.
I found a thread in the EOC forum and one guy says he is using bios 1004 which offers 1.65v on the CPU. :)

Damn, 1.850 !, my mobo sucks so badly !! :(.. Memory wont even overclock 20mhz on this board either... just keep giving me errors behond 270MHz regardless of timings and voltage... :( So stuck at 230 2.5.3.3.6.. Joy !

does your mobo not over volt?

i have the same mobo and setting vcore to 1.425 in bios puts out 1.47-1.49.

i want to get 2.8ghz too but theres no way im setting it to 1.5v the way this thing over volts lol

Mine doesnt overvolt unfortunately...

Why are you so desperate to get higher frequency, you've already pushed both cores 750Mhz higher, thats over a 3rd faster than stock....I'd be more than happy with a dual core processor at 2.75! It must be lightening fast!

I just hate being held back when I know it can do more.. :(

Tell you what, I'll swap you with my Opty 170 that can only do 2.6 at 1.55V ! ;)

At 2.7, the machine doesn't even boot the bios, so a 3800 X2 @ 2.75... Well...

Yes but I want 2.8 damit ! :p This 3800+ doesnt overclock much more then my old 4400+ which is disapointing to me..

My heads clear now.
Shocky if you change your bios to 1004 it will give you v.core options up to 1.65v.
Ill see if I can find the thread on EOC and give you a link.

My X2 3800 was stuck at about 2.76 till I removed the IHS.
Removing the IHS will almost deffinately get you to 2.8 but you would loose value on the chip if you decided to sell.

EDIT/ I found the thread on EOC, link below
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=202887

Its the last post.

Interesting, bit late to start flashing but i'll definately give that bios a try tommrow ! :D

Temp isnt really that bad imo, i've seen my 4400+ up to 56C so plently of room to play with and I only think it needs a slight voltage increase.

Should the 1004 bios work ok with dual core CPUs? Why are there no custom bios made for this board, etc, latest bios with extra voltage?

Thanks btw !! :) ;)

Just has a quick search for it but found nothing.... any idea where I can download this?

W00t, I found the 1004 bios ! And max is now 1.65V ! Sweet !! :D :D :D

Its at 1.52V now and its priming, 20min in and no errors so far... /me crosses fingers... :D

I'll probably just settlle with the memory at @235 with tighter timings, there difference in performance is quite small anyway, its basically 7000 vs 6600.. I can live with that,.

Might consider removing the IHS but i'm worried about the heatsink making good contact as the hight so no doubt be different..

Is it safe to have a SI-120 directly on the CPU?, will it make full contact with the cpu with the IHS off ?

***! I never got 1.65v when i tried the 1004 bios. Maybe i flashed with a different one by mistake. Seems stupid that asus would remove the higher voltage options in later bioses. Not sure about the si120 but i have the xp120 and that fits if you modify the mount and sand down the raised part of the socket on the board

Aw well I guess there was a good reason to remove the voltage options.... They don't work...

And I'm assuming it didn't make a difference to the overclock?

Don't trust software voltages.....

Nope the temps didnt increase at all, and the fact the cpu was still unstable kinda confirmed it. :p
