Help me get Ubuntu onto old netbook

This is driving me nuts. Got an old Acer netbook I want to turn into a Linux box to mess around with. Problem is that it WILL NOT boot from any USB media :mad:

I've tried everything in the BIOS - plus tried different USB sticks in different ports. Nothing. It just sits there saying "remove media and restart". I can't network boot either, for various reasons. I don't want to run Ubuntu in a VM either.

How can I get Linux on this damn thing LOL

Tried unetbootin?
USB DVD drive?

Also you can try Rufus.

Are you getting the option to boot from USB?

Thanks - Unetbootin did the trick! I had actually tried a couple of other similar ones and they didn't work. I had come to the conclusion that this netbook simply couldn't boot from USB at all. Now I'm up and running. Cheers

I just did similar for my bro's old Advent 4213 netbook. Took the drive out, oem install mode on my machine and popped the drive in his once it installed. Worked a treat.
