Hi guys,

Planning on getting a new laptop soon and just realised I have totally lost touch with what's happening in pc hardware land. I think I stopped caring about computers sometime in 2002-2003 after built my last rig ( athlon 2400+, radeon 9800, the muts nuts back then) and bought a lappy a few years later to replace that.

So my question is how far have things moved on since then. And does any one know of any benchmark charts comparing cpus from my day and the latest stuff from now.To put into context just how old my hardware knowledge has become, the last cpu i remember drooling about was the hyper threaded prescots.:)

I can safely say that there is little to no point in comparing the stuff of today to 5 year old tech.

Anything bought now for the same price as you paid for anything 5 years ago will be insanely faster.

Do you a rough idea, here is my moderately overclocked budget (£50) cpu against some older cpus.
