Never used Linux before, however just got a computer I want to use it on. I want it to boot from a 16GB USB drive (there are no drives in the computer).

However, I cannot understand a word of any of the guides and they all seem to be oriented towards installing it from another computer with Linux.

What I need help with is which disk image should I download (this being the hardware http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AT5IONTI/), how do I place it onto the USB in Windows so that it is installed on there and will boot on the fresh computer from the USB (not install onto another drive within), and... I think thats it.

Any help greatly appreciated!

E; I plan to use Whonix with it if that matters at all.

I was looking at Tails previously but decided to switch to trying to get Whonix going (on Debian? This is viable unless I misunderstand something [likely :p]).

I prefer the kde desktop but I trust that shouldn't change the installation method. Also I'm using ISODrive as I've heard some people have had problems using UNetBootin with live isos.

Do the live isos not remove the need for the separate installation? I was downloading debian-live-8.0.0-amd64-kde-desktop.iso ? Or am I mistaken?

Thanks.

Didn't understand they were read-only like Tails, was under the impression it was like a standard OS :p

Anyway got Tails going, not bothering with any persistent volumes for now. Cheers for the advice!
