Hello, i have recently got maxdsl on my line, which the BT website should be able to handle at least 5.5mbps. However when speed testing i get no better than 200 - 300kbps down with 200 - 300 kbps upload. I have tried plugging directly into the plug behind the faceplate, which has no effect. So my thinking is that i have a noisy line. But i am not sure how to interpret the data my router gives me:

DSL Status: UP
DSL Modulation Mode: GDMT
DSL Path Mode: FAST
Downstream Rate: 8128 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 3 db
Upstream Margin: 22 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 37
Upstream Line Attenuation: 19
Downstream Transmit Power: 0
Upstream Transmit Power: 0

The downstream margin varies from between 0 - 3db. My router is also a rather crappy linksys AG241 which i intend to replace. I have also tested with two different routers, to the same effect.

Any help is much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Ganesh.

How recently did you get regraded? Speeds can vary during the first 10 days.

On monday, i understand that the speed will change, but i expected a lot more. Not to get such an initially low speed.

It takes several days for the speed to settle, BT locks the speed to 2 meg whilst the 10 days testing is going on to work out your most stable sync rate. After that, sometimes before you should notice your speed begin to rise. If you don't you should contact your ISP.
